2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Cam Newton’s running abilities as a quarterback have always tantalized the fantasy community; however his arm failed to muster more than pedestrian stats in an era where passing stats have exploded. Last season, Newton and the Panthers were able to find a more efficient balance that paved a way to the Super Bowl. His dynamic approach allowed him to become one of the most consistent and highest producing fantasy players on a weekly basis. Can Newton sustain this new level of production in the passing game? Will his rushing totals decline after posting career best in rushing attempts and touchdowns in 2015? Yes and Yes. The receiving corps is stronger by getting their top man back, but veteran Ted Ginn Jr. also proved he can cut out a complementary role in the offense. The team moved up in the 2015 draft to select Devin Funchess and he looks ready to make a larger contribution with a year under his belt. Additionally, Carolina has one of the best red zone tandems in Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen. Newton will deliver on the ground but it would be wise to factor in some regression when forecasting his 2016 season. The absence of Benjamin likely contributed to the approximately 30 percent increase in Newton’s rushing attempts. Though the upside for double-digit scores on the ground is possible Carolina will have better supporting options available in 2016. Nonetheless, Newton figures to be a force again this season and worthy of anchoring your team on draft day.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Stewart, Newton practice on Thursday
Panthers should have starting QB and RB in Week 6
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 13, 12:00 pm

Carolina Panthers
The fact that Cam is back out here after his most vigorous exercise in a week and a half is a good sign for Sunday for sure. (Joe Person on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cam Newton and Jonathan Stewart were at practice for the Panthers on Thursday indicating there are on track to play in Week 6 against the Saints. The Saints porous defense makes Newton an easy QB1 and Stewart a viable RB2.

Injury Newton limited in practice
Still in concussion protocol
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Oct 12, 4:49 pm

Carolina Panthers
The Panthers franchise quarterback was limited in his return to practice Wednesday as he continued to work through concussion protocol, coach Ron Rivera said. Newton arrived on a cart with his cleats and helmet in tow, putting him possibly on track to play Sunday against the Saints minus any setbacks. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: This is great news and should give Cam Newton owners a little hope heading into a juicy match up against the Saints. Expect the team to update the status of their quarterback by the end of the week.

Injury Cam Newton expected to miss Week 5
Concussion
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 7, 9:00 am

Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton and left tackle Michael Oher are expected to miss Monday night’s game against Tampa Bay as they remain in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Carolina also will likely be without No. 1 cornerback James Bradberry (turf toe), running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) and defensive tackle Vernon Butler (high ankle sprain). (Charlotte Observer)

FFToday's Take: The Panthers don't play until Monday night so the possibility exists that Newton could be cleared in time but for now, Derek Anderson should be the expected starter. Anderson will be a worthwhile QB streamer going up a Bucs defense that's giving up 300-yard passing days to Matt Ryan and Carson Palmer.

Injury Cam suffers concussion in loss to Falcons
Week 5 status uncertain
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 3, 5:25 pm

Carolina Panthers
Ron Rivera said he has no idea about Cam Newton's status for next Monday night. (Steve Reed on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: About the only thing working in Newton's favor is that Carolina will have one more day than usual to gain clearance as the Panthers host the Bucs on Monday night. Unfortunately, that doesn't do much for his owners, who aren't going to have any realistic options outside of backup Derek Anderson to turn to if he can't go. As such, owners should prepare to be without Newton this week.

Cameron Artis-Payne to start
RBBC expected
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 23, 1:35 pm

Carolina Panthers
RE Panthers' RB plans: Cameron Artis-Payne will start, but will be by committee. Rivera said CAP would not necessarily get bulk of carries. (Joe Person on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker should handle the majority of running back carries with a little Mike Tolbert mixed in. Artis-Payne has some FLEX appeal but is difficult to trust given the committee approach plus Cam Newton's rushing presence around the goaline.
