2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Coming off a 2013 performance that included 50 catches, 8 TDs and nearly 1,200 total yards, Joique Bell inked a new three-year, $9.3 million deal this offseason. Bell makes up for his lack of measurables and elite athleticism by being a fundamentally sound and extremely disciplined football player—and on a team with elite passing weapons, sometimes that's enough to get the job done. Doing work as a runner and receiver, Bell has amassed back-to-back 50-catch seasons as a mostly change-of-pace running back. As the offense morphs into New Orleans North, expect Bell to fill the Pierre Thomas role in the offense. Keep a close eye on Bell's health as camp approaches—he has missed all offseason minicamps and OTAs with a lingering knee injury. Missing the early install of a new offense could get Bell off to a slow start, but expect him to approach and possibly surpass his ground numbers of 2013 (166-650-3.9), as he remains the Lions' best between-the-tackles and goal-line runner. With the additions of Eric Ebron and Golden Tate, Bell no longer remains Matt Stafford's first option in the short-passing game. If Reggie Bush remains healthy for 16 games, don't be shocked to see a slight dip in Bell's reception totals. With an uptick in touch totals, however, Bell makes for a decent option as an RB2, with a possibility for more should Bush miss any time.

Comment: Bush had more redzone rushing attempts than Bell last season but Bell was more efficient, scoring 36% of the time from inside the 20.

Injury Lions RB Bush, TE Pettigrew limited at practice
Veteran tailback wearing ice pack on left knee
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 10, 4:41 pm

Detroit Lions
Running back Reggie Bush (knee), safety James Ihedigbo (neck) and tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) were all held out of portions of Wednesday's session. Bush and Pettigrew were both new additions to the practice report. Prior to practice, the veteran running back was seen sporting an ice pack on his left knee. (mlive.com)

FFToday's Take: Bush is nursing a sore left knee but his status for week two does not appear to be in jeopardy at this time. Continue to monitor his activity levels in practice this week. If Bush were to sit out this weekend, fellow RB Joique Bell would see his fantasy stock climb heading into the Lions' matchup against the Panthers.

Injury Joique Bell ready for camp, "feeling 100%"
Cleared to run at full speed
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 8, 12:35 pm

Detroit Lions
Joique Bell said he'll report to training camp a few days before most of his teammates to test out his body. "I'm feeling 100 percent," Bell said. "I'm feeling great." A knee injury has sidelined Bell for the early portions of Detroit's offseason program. That hasn't stopped him from staying in shape. (MLive.com)

FFToday's Take: Bell has been cleared to run at full speed and is coming off his best season as a pro totaling 1197 combined yards and 8 touchdowns. He's an ideal RB2 especially in PPR leagues and is slightly undervalued with an ADP late in round five.

Can Theo Riddick become the next Sproles?
Backup QB believes Riddick will catch 50 passes in 2014
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 7, 3:40 pm

Detroit Lions
Who takes the role of Darren Sproles - the shifty, multifaceted running back who can run the ball and make plays as a receiver in the open field - in Detroit? Backup QB Dan Orlovsky has an idea. His bold prediction: Theo Riddick will catch at least 50 passes. “This kid, he wasn’t covered a single time in OTAs and minicamp,” Orlovsky said. "If he doesn’t have 50 catches this year, I’ll be surprised. He’s going to have opportunities and he’s really talented at it.” (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: With two very adept receivers ahead of him in Reggie Bush and Joique Bell, Riddick appears to be a longshot to fulfill Orlovsky's prediction. However, New OC Joe Lombardi saw the three-back system work well in New Orleans and is reportedly installing the same offense in Detroit that the Saints use. Bush also stated earlier in the offseason that Riddick is a more complete back now that he was at the same age. Riddick has the skill set to be fantasy-relevant in 2014.
