2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Chris Ivory was last offseason's big acquisition at the running back position. After a slow start, due to suffering a hamstring injury during training camp, Ivory showed to be a capable feature back. In Week 6 and Week 9, the Jets upset two of the league's top teams, the Patriots and the Saints. Ivory gained 243 yards with a touchdown during that hot streak. Following Week 9, he was an important part of the Jets' offense, but his lack of usage in the passing game and the Jets lack of scoring opportunities limited his fantasy value. This season the offense should be much improved and Ivory could see more goal-line opportunities but the presence of Chris Johnson will put a serious cap on his fantasy value. Ivory could be a decent mid- to late-round stash, whose value could rise with a Johnson injury, but otherwise he doesn't pack much bang for your buck.

Jets likely to go with "hot hand" at RB
Johnson expects to start, but does not know exact role
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 4, 4:10 pm

New York Jets
Chris Johnson expects to start Sunday in the New York Jets' season opener, but he's not sure about his exact role -- i.e. how the carries will be divided among the running backs. Johnson might not be certain of the particulars, but he's confident in this: He won't be spending a lot of time on the bench. In six seasons with the Titans, Johnson averaged 18 carries per game. He probably won't reach that number, especially since he's coming off knee surgery. RB coach Anthony Lynn subscribes to the "hot hand" philosophy. (ESPN New York)

FFToday's Take: Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell are all listed as starters on the depth chart, for what little that is worth. Johnson is a poor fit for Rex Ryan's preferred "Ground-and-Pound" attack while Ivory is, meaning Johnson could have more than his share of bad fantasy days. The ex-Titan shouldn't be considered anything more than a flex in all leagues until he assumes the lead role for sure, assuming that even happens.

Jets expected to take it easy on Chris Johnson
Likely to see limited action in preseason
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 14, 3:55 pm

New York Jets
Five years removed from his 2,000-yard season with the Tennessee Titans, Chris Johnson starts over with the Jets, attempting to prove he's still CJ2K. His surgically-repaired knee, which sidelined him for the spring, will be a hot topic throughout camp. The last thing the Jets will want to do is tax Johnson, so look for a modified practice schedule - a "pitch count," as Rex Ryan likes to call it. It doesn't matter how many rushing yards he accumulates in the preseason; the objective is to make sure he's in peak condition for the Sept. 7 opener. (ESPN New York)

FFToday's Take: With Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and possibly even Daryl Richardson in reserve, the Jets really have no reason to run Johnson into the ground. As the article points out at the end, only two other backs faced more eight-man boxes than Johnson last year, so opposing defensive coordinators still fear him. Still, Johnson should be in line for a shade over 200 carries, which should allow him to be a solid low-end RB2 option.
