2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Chris Ivory appears to be the lead tailback for the Jets as the team heads into training camp, as free-agent addition and former New England Patriot Stevan Ridley continues to nurse his way back from an ACL and MCL injury. Ivory posted 821 rushing yards and a 4.1 yard per carry average in 2014, but managed to top the century mark only twice in 16 games. He also failed to reach the end zone in 11 of those 16 games. The injury to Ridley will surely give Ivory more opportunities for carries in the early part of the season should Ridley not be able to go, however, the Jets have a crowded backfield that also includes Zac Stacy, who was traded to the Jets from the Rams for a seventh-round pick this spring.

Another factor that could lead to less carries for Ivory is the addition of Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator. Gailey runs a spread offense that incorporates numerous 11, 10 and 00 sets, with one and sometimes no tailback on the field. The scheme usually requires an agile, pass-catching tailback to line up in single-back sets. That type of offense would favor a smaller back like Bilal Powell over a bruiser like Ivory. For these reasons, Ivory should be considered a very low-end number two running back or a flex play this season.

Jets sign Dri Archer to reserve/future deal
New York looking to get faster on offense
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Feb 3, 8:10 pm

New York Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Jets have signed speedy running back-kick returner Dri Archer to a reserve/future contract. The versatile Archer, who has also played wide receiver, was a third-round draft pick by Pittsburgh out of Kent State in 2014. He was waived by the Steelers last November. Jets coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan recently said they want the team to be faster next season, and Archer fills the bill. (AP-Sports)

FFToday's Take: New York's backfield may undergo a makeover this offseason. The team is expected to watch Chris Ivory get his raise from another organization, and Steven Ridley and Bilal Powell are UFAs. Zac Stacy is signed through the 2016 season but isn't part of the team's long term plans. This is one backfield fantasy owners will need to monitor throughout the offseason.

Ivory done in New York?
Ran for AFC-high 1,070 yards in 2015
By: Doug Orth | Mon Feb 1, 7:50 pm

New York Jets
Chris Ivory's appearance in the Pro Bowl on Sunday night may have been his final game in a New York Jets uniform. He will be an unrestricted free agent next month, and the indicators suggest he will sign elsewhere. Ivory is coming off his most productive season, including an AFC-best 1,070 rushing yards, but there are three factors working against his return: his age (28 next month), his late-season decline, and the Jets' tight salary cap situation. The Jets have seven starters heading to free agency, and Ivory probably is no higher than fourth on the priority list. With only $14 million in projected cap space (a loose projection at this point), there's no way to retain every good player. (ESPN New York)

FFToday's Take: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, DE Muhammad Wilkerson and NT Damon Harrison are the three players that some expect to be higher on the priority list than the ex-Saint. Ivory is expected to seek at least $4 million per year and should have a fairly robust market for his services, even in what should be a good crop of free-agent runners - one that might include Doug Martin, Lamar Miller and Matt Forte.

Injury Bilal Powell inactive for Jets
Chris Ivory to start

Bilal Powell is Inactive. (NY Jets on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This was expected. We should see Chris Ivory carry the majority of the load with Powell out. With winds upwards of 25 mph and flurries in the forecast, Ivory is a solid RB2 in Week 17.

Injury Bilal Powell misses practice all week
Questionable for Week 17
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 1, 12:45 pm

New York Jets
Jets running back Bilal Powell missed practice for the third straight day on Friday, which earned him a questionable listing on the teamís final injury report of the week. The Jets havenít had a player take part in a game this season after missing an entire week of practice, which would seem to make Powell an unlikely participant in Week 17. (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Chris Ivory and Stevan Ridley will likely be the running backs carrying the load against the Bills. Ivory is worth a look in daily formats in a game the Jets will need to win in order to make the playoffs.
