2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
During his four-year career with the Packers, James Starks has been a playoff hero, a training room resident and on-the-roster bubble. In the early offseason of 2013, he was nearly cut or traded away following the drafting of rookies Eddie Lacy and Jonathan Franklin. This year, he signed a new contract and plays a valuable back-up role on a playoff team. What happened? Well for one, Starks stayed relatively healthy. Playing in a career-high 13 games, Starks amassed nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns playing second fiddle to Lacy. Secondly, he capitalized on the struggles and subsequent injuries to rookie Jonathan Franklin and DuJuan Harris, and showed why lack of health and not talent has held him back from his true potential. Sporting an explosive 5.5 yard-per-carry average, Starks is back on the fantasy map, but unfortunately, barring a long-term injury to Lacy, is no more than a deep roster stash or handcuff. With coaching-staff-favorite Harris healthy, Rodgers back in the fold and Lacy dominating carries, don't expect much from Starks in 2014. Maybe that's what fantasy owners should have done all along with Starks. though. You can, however, hope for surprising value at some point in the season.

Injury Lacy (hip) still limited in practice
Packers not overly concerned about Week 15 availability
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 11, 2:45 pm

Green Bay Packers
Maybe Eddie Lacy's hip injury will be more of an issue than originally thought. The Green Bay Packers running back did little to nothing in the portion of practice that was open for viewing Thursday. Lacy, who was officially listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, was uniform Thursday but spent a good portion of the individual drills watching his teammates go through the workout. Lacy did not finish Monday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons, but on Tuesday coach Mike McCarthy said he did not have a high level of concern about Lacy's availability for this Sunday's game at the Buffalo Bills. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: McCarthy stated following his team's practice on Thursday that Lacy is "making progress", but Friday's availability figures to be key. The second-year back has a difficult matchup against Buffalo, so if he is limited in any way going into the weekend, his owners need to have a backup option in mind. If Lacy were to miss Week 15, James Starks would fill in and could be considered a low-end RB2.

Injury Lacy (hip) dinged up in win over Falcons
"Bobsleddy" Eddie sits out final series in favor of James Starks
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 9, 10:30 am

Green Bay Packers
James Starks did the job at the end, helping the Packers run out the clock, but why wasn't Eddie Lacy in the game? It turned out Lacy sustained a hip bruise late in the game that prevented him from finishing. Lacy said he thought he would be OK despite the short turnaround to Sunday's game at Buffalo, but he couldn't go at the end against the Falcons. "I mean I tried, but no," Lacy said. Lacy and Starks combined for 148 yards rushing (Starks had 10 carries for 75 yards, while Lacy had 13 carries for 73 yards) and each scored a rushing touchdown. Lacy also caught a touchdown pass, but it was Starks who was there at the end. "He had a great game out there tonight," Lacy said of his backfield mate. "And we have to go out and continue to do this for the rest of the season." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Lacy should be fine for Week 15 but James Starks makes a decent waiver wire pickup heading into Buffalo.
