|Redskins expected to start Colt McCoy|
RGIII headed to the bench
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Nov 25, 11:30 pm
|The Washington Redskins are planning to start Colt McCoy over Robert Griffin III this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, according to a team source. While Griffin is not a part of Washington's plan for Sunday's game, he still appears to be a significant part of the Redskins' long-term plan, per another source. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: The momentum to bench RGIII has been building the last couple weeks and it appears will come to a head this Sunday. Given the state of the offense under Griffin, the turn to McCoy could give the passing game a positive bump. The Redskins face the Colts in Week 13, then STL, NYG, PHI and DAL.
| Jay Gruden to decide on RG3 tomorrow|
Colt McCoy to start if Griffin III can't play
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Oct 22, 7:00 pm
|Jay Gruden said Wednesday that he would like to have made a decision on whether Robert Griffin III will play against Dallas following a workout and a medical examination on Thursday morning. While Gruden has told McCoy that he will be the starter on Monday if Griffin is not medically cleared to play, Gruden did say that Griffin is the “wild card” for that game. (Washington Times)|
FFToday's Take: Griffin III has upside as a QB2 for the second half of the fantasy season yet inconsistency prevents him from being a reliable starter. He should not be relied upon for Week 8 even if he returns to action. The entire offense could struggle if Colt McCoy is asked to lead the Redskins against the Cowboys.
| Colt McCoy to draw Week 8 start|
Assuming Robert Griffin III (foot) is unable to return
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 20, 6:55 pm
|Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he's not going to rule out a return this week by quarterback Robert Griffin III. But Gruden also made it clear that Griffin still must show a lot in practice before the team declares him ready to start.
If he doesn't start, then Gruden said Colt McCoy would do so against Dallas for the teams' Oct. 27 matchup. Griffin has not played since dislocating his left ankle in Week 2.
FFToday's Take: Griffin's initial optimistic timetable was 8-10 weeks, so a six-week return is highly unlikely. McCoy went 11-for-12 in relief of Kirk Cousins after he was benched at the start of the second half of Washington's Week 7 win over Tennessee. McCoy will likely start against Dallas (Week 8) and Minnesota (Week 9) before the Redskins' bye, possibly allowing RG3 to return in Week 11 versus Tampa Bay.
