2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Despite having only 64 catches last season, Golden Tate was the eighth-best receiver in terms of yards after catch in 2013. As sure-handed as they come, the former Notre Dame star was also among the league leaders in catch rate. Tate fills some gigantic holes in the Lions' passing game. He gives Stafford a reliable short-to-intermediate target that has the ability to get yards after the catch, and he also comes with a winning pedigree and experience in big-game situations. When evaluating Tate from a fantasy perspective, it's important to remember that he is going from being a No. 1 receiver in run-heavy Seattle to a complementary piece in what should be a high-volume passing offense in Detroit. The wide receiver position is as deep as ever, and the fact remains that there are lots of potential mouths to feed, and only one football. Expect Tate's numbers to be heavily influenced by the use of Ebron. If Ebron develops quickly and forces Lions coaches to make him a must in the weekly game play, Tate's numbers could stagnate or drop slightly. If Ebron comes along slowly, or one of the running backs succumbs to injury, Tate could be called on regularly and be a real fantasy asset. At this point, consider Tate a WR4/5 and stash him on your bench hoping for more.

Injury Bell, Tate among Lions missing minicamp
Expected back in time for training camp
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jun 12, 5:35 pm

Detroit Lions
Minicamp is over and that gives six weeks of either rest or rehab for some of the Lions’ walking wounded. DE Ziggy Ansah, RB Joique Bell and WR Golden Tate didn’t take part in any of the three minicamp practices this week, but each is expected back for the start of training camp. The Lions aren’t certain that’ll be the case for CB Chris Houston, but are hopeful. (DetroitLions.com)

FFToday's Take: Bell missed the mandatory minicamp with a knee injury while Tate was nursing a shoulder. The team doesn't seem concerned about either injury, so Bell should remain squarely on the low-end RB2 bubble while Tate should have no issue playing at a WR3 level this season.

Doug Baldwin expected to start opposite Harvin
Expected to fill void left behind by Golden Tate
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jun 5, 5:00 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell, asked who will replace WR Golden Tate, said Doug Baldwin will move to the “X” or split end position this year, while also still playing some inside. Percy Harvin will play primarily the "Z", or flanker, spot. He also said of Sidney Rice that they “really like what he’s looking like” and that he will also play outside. (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Tate caught 64 passes for 898 yards and five scores last year, which is roughly the ceiling for just about any receiver in the run-heavy Seahawks' offense. Baldwin has recorded at least 50 receptions in two of his three seasons despite being the third option in the passing game at times, so he clearly has a rapport with QB Russell Wilson. He should be considered a decent, but low-upside WR4 in fantasy.

Lions going up-tempo in 2014
OC Joe Lombardi bringing over pieces of Saints playbook
By: Mike Krueger | Thu May 22, 8:30 am

Detroit Lions
First-year Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, an offensive assistant with the Saints for seven seasons, said after he was hired that his playbook is a combination of ideas he brought from New Orleans, leftovers from the Lions’ last offense, and things Caldwell and others have added from previous stops. One tenet of the system, and something the Lions have stressed repeatedly in their off-season practices, is playing at a fast pace in order to control the tempo of the game. (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: The Lions have the skill position players to shatter previous offensive team records if they can quicken the pace the way Chip Kelley did with the Eagles a year ago. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and Golden Tate can all be fantasy stars in Lombardi's new offense.
