| Rob Gronkowski out indefinitely|
Surgery planned for injured back Dec. 2
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 1, 2:05 pm
|Bad news for Rob Gronkowski: Back injury ended up being worse than originally believed. He will have surgery tomorrow, per source. (Pro Football Talk)|
FFToday's Take: Gronk is reportedly dealing with a ruptured disk and will be sidelined roughly eight weeks, which would put him out through the week before the Super Bowl. It would seem to be good news for Martellus Bennett owners, but he isn't even close to fully healthy and probably hasn't been since September. With no other tight end capable of picking up the slack, expect James White, Dion Lewis and probably even Malcolm Mitchell to absorb extra targets down the stretch.
| Gronkowski expected to play|
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 27, 8:00 am
|After missing last week's game, #Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (lung) is expected back vs. the #Jets, sources say. This was the hope all along. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Gronk was limited in practice this week but it appears he's going to give it a go. The Pats/Jets kickoff late this afternoon making Gronk a risky start for fantasy owners. He's wroth the roll of the dice against the Jets.
| Gronk questionable, limited in practice Friday|
Tight end's status unclear
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 25, 4:30 pm
|Tight end Rob Gronkowski was also a limited participant on Friday to wrap up a week of practices after missing last Sunday’s game with a chest injury. There was a report Thursday that Gronkowski will miss this week’s game as well, but the Patriots have listed him as questionable along with Brady. (ProFootballTalk)|
FFToday's Take: Basically all of the Patriots fantasy relevant players in the passing game are questionable. Tom Brady, Gronk, Julian Edelman, Martellus Bennett and Chris Hogan. It would be a complete shock if Brady, Edelman and Bennett didn't play. Gronk and Hogan are still up in the air. Perhaps we'll get more clarification before the late-afternoon kickoff on Sunday.
| Rob Gronkowski expected to miss Week 12|
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 23, 8:45 am
|Rob Gronkowski is not expected to play this Sunday against the Jets. The Patriots staff is prepping the offense without him per sources. (Dianna Russini on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Gronk took a vicious hit to the chest in Week 10 that caused him to miss Week 11. Martellus Bennett will once again be on the TE1 radar in a matchup with the Jets who are right in the middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed to the position.
| Chris Hogan, Gronk out for New England|
Pats down two receivers
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 18, 2:10 pm
|The Patriots have ruled TE Rob Gronkowski and WR Chris Hogan (back) out for Sunday's game against the 49ers. (Mike Reiss on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: We expected Gronk to be sidelined but Hogan's absence comes as a bit of a surprise. Expect Danny Amendola to see more action at wide receiver, but he'll be nothing more than a dart throw given the Patriots tendency to spread the ball around. Hogan was limited in practice this week with a back injury.
| Rob Gronkowski misses practice Friday|
Missed pactice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 18, 11:45 am
|Rob Gronkowski was not present at the New England Patriots' practice on Friday. That means he has not practiced at all this week, making it extremely unlikely that he played the Patriots' Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers. (CBS Sports)|
FFToday's Take: It's seems unlikely that Gronk will play but we should get a better idea by Saturday. If he sits, Martellus Bennett would vault into TE1 territory and make for a great DFS option in Week 11.
| Gronk not at practice Thursday|
Second straight missed practice
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 17, 4:50 pm
|TE Rob Gronkowski (chest) is not present for Thursday's practice, marking the second straight day he has been absent with a chest injury. (Mike Reiss on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Owners should have their answer regarding Gronk's playing status by Friday, when the Patriots get on the plane to go to San Francisco. He had to cancel a non-football commitment because he wasn't cleared to fly and there has been a suspicion all week he will not play against the 49ers. With games against the Jets and Rams over the next two weeks, don't be surprised if the Pats play this situation very cautiously. Martellus Bennett is a near-elite TE1 play this week.
| Gronkowski suffered punctured lung in Week 10|
Expected to miss Week 11
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 14, 8:30 pm
|Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski suffered what is believed to be a punctured lung on Sunday vs. Seahawks, according to sources. But could miss just one game. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Gronkowski was understandably staggered after taking a vicious legal hit from Earl Thomas and missed a few plays before returning. Martellus Bennett started going off almost immediately after it happened, and he stands to benefit the most should Gronk missed Week 11 against San Francisco. In such a case, Bennett stands to be an elite TE1 play.
| Julian Edelman lands on injury report|
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 6, 7:45 pm
|The Patriots made an addition to their injury report after Thursday’s practice.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman wasn’t on Wednesday’s report, but popped up as a limited participant in practice with his foot given as the reason. There aren’t any details about the reason for the change in status. (Pro Football Talk)|
FFToday's Take: No cause for alarm yet, but it is a bit troubling considering Edelman has had two foot surgeries in the last year and wasn't on Wednesday's injury report. With Tom Brady back from suspension, Edelman is a high-end WR2 in PPR formats. If he has to sit out this game, however, Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola stand to benefit the most, especially since Rob Gronkowski isn't 100 percent yet.
|Rob Gronkowski active for Week 3|
Cleared to play for first time since Aug. 15 hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 22, 7:20 pm
|While the New England Patriots are planning to enter Thursday night's game against the Houston Texans with rookie Jacoby Brissett as their only quarterback, they will be boosted by the return of tight end Rob Gronkowski, who will be active, a league source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Gronkowski can immediately be inserted back into lineup, but expectations need to be kept a bit in check since Brissett is making his first start against a pretty stout defense in the Texans. Given the circumstances, Gronk should be considered a midrange TE1 in part because he could very well be on a snap count. The good news is that Gronkowski should return to the consensus top tight end in fantasy and be up to speed by the time Tom Brady returns in Week 5.
| Gronkowski telling teammates he plans to play|
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Sep 22, 9:00 am
|Tight end Rob Gronkowski has been telling teammates all week that he plans to make his 2016 season debut tonight. (Boston Globe)|
FFToday's Take: Definitive information is hard to come by with the Patriots however it appears Gronk is going to suit up against the Texans Thursday night. How much he plays is anyone's guess, but if he's on the field, he should be in your lineup.
| Rob Gronkowski to miss 2nd straight game|
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 18, 8:30 am
|New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will not play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins because of a hamstring injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This is the second straight week Gronkowski has missed after injuring the hamstring Aug. 15 in a joint practice with the Chicago Bears. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Gronk was limited in practice all week so this news isn't much of a surprise. Martellus Bennett will fill Gronk's shoes and makes for TE2 consideration.
| Gronk to sit again?|
Limited in practice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 17, 12:45 pm
|New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is officially questionable for Sunday's home opener against the Miami Dolphins. Based on what I saw in a limited peek at practice this week, my feeling is that it wouldn't be a surprise if Gronkowski remains sidelined. He is still limited. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Gronk owners need to have Plan B in place for Sunday. The Patriots do play at 1:00 PM Eastern, so we will a firm report on his status by 11:30 AM. Martellus Bennett would get the start again if Gronk sits and be on the TE2 radar after being used mostly as a blocker in Week 1.
| Rob Gronkowski back at practice|
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 14, 1:00 pm
|Rob Gronkowski is returning to the practice field.
After missing Week 1 with a hamstring injury, the star tight end will be at practice Wednesday, NFL Network's Courtney Fallon reported. Gronk practiced in a limited capacity all last week before being ruled out for the game on Friday, as first reported by Fallon.
FFToday's Take: Gronk's week is getting off to a good start. Despite his practice status, he'll likely end up being listed Questionable at the end of the week. If he suits up on Sunday against the Dolphins, he'll be the top-ranked tight end.
