|After bouncing around from team to team during the first three years of his career, Brown earned a solid role with the Giants last season, gaining 385 yards and scoring eight touchdowns on just 73 carries despite appearing in just eight games. A broken leg ended his season in Week 12 after he had established himself as the team's top backup. With Ahmad Bradshaw having been released, Brown will compete with 2012 first-round pick David Wilson for a starting position in 2013. While all indications are that Brown will lose that battle, the Giants will almost certainly stick to the committee approach they have used for several years. Although he lacks great speed and agility, Brown is a road grader, a solid pass protector and an outstanding short-yardage runner. Given Wilson's lack of experience, poor pass blocking ability and reputation as a fumbler, Brown rates as a solid flex play and low-end RB3 entering 2013.
Comment: Brown fractured his leg in the preseaon finale. His timetable for return is unclear.
Rashad Jennings headed to Giants -- Tue Mar 11 5:30 pm --
Ex-Raider could be starter in New York
The Giants wasted little time addressing their contingency plan at running back, agreeing to terms with former Raiders running back Rashad Jennings. Jennings, 28, rushed for 733 yards and six touchdowns last year as a member of the Raiders. He has a career average of more than four yards per carry, which should help the Giants depleted running back corps. (Star-Ledger)
FF Today's Take: The Giants will re-sign RB Peyton Hillis to a two-year deal and David Wilson (neck) is under contract. Andre Brown is the odd-man out in this situation meaning Jennings should be a significant contributor in 2014 and could easily be the starter Week 1.
David Wilson needs neck surgery -- Thu Jan 9 3:00 pm --
Repair of a herniated disk in his neck
The New York Giants still don't know whether they can expect to have running back David Wilson back on the field in 2014, but at least they now have a plan to help move them in that direction. Giants GM Jerry Reese said in an interview with WFAN radio in New York on Thursday that Wilson would undergo surgery this offseason to repair the herniated disk in his neck. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Wilson missed 11 games in 2013 due to his neck injury and his s He's scheduled to have surgery next week but his status for 2014 remains up in the air due to the seriousness of the situation. Expect the Giants to attempt to sign unrestricted free agent Andre Brown this off-season.
David Wilson should play in 2014 -- Mon Dec 30 3:00 pm --
Will likely need offseason neck surgery
David Wilson may need neck surgery, but GM Jerry Reese said "Doctors think they can fix that and he'll be able to play" in 2014. (Ralph Vacchiano on Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Wilson is a hold in dynasty leagues - even if he is a risky one - but a complete wildcard in redraft formats. It appears the Giants are serious about improving their offense (and the offensive line in particular) in the offseason, so Wilson should have a chance to fulfill his potential while sharing carries - presumably with Andre Brown.
