2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Bills made a big splash last off-season trading for Philadelphia’s starting running back and immediately offered him a big contract extension. McCoy showed some flashes of his 2013 form, but just like his last season with the Eagles he was a mild disappointment in Buffalo. At times he looked inferior to his rookie backup Karlos Williams. When it was all said and done, McCoy missed four games and finished the season with only 895 rushing yards and 32 receptions for an additional 292 yards with 5 total touchdowns. Despite a down season, McCoy still managed to finish as a solid RB2.

This off-season McCoy was involved in a bar room brawl that sent two off-duty police officers to the hospital, but after a thorough investigation he will not face charges, and is unlikely to see any league discipline. McCoy just turned 28, and while he’s on the right side of 30, he looks like he may have peaked in 2013 under Chip Kelly. He sat out the final two weeks of the 2015 season with a torn MCL, but that shouldn’t present any issues for 2016. The Bills’ offense will surely present a heavy workload for McCoy, even with Karlos Williams coming on as a rookie and the team drafting another talented back in Jonathan Williams out of Arkansas. The Bills finished second in rushing attempts last season and could very well lead this league this year. McCoy hasn’t been much of a touchdown threat (5 total last year) and that shouldn’t won’t change anytime soon. Karlos Williams excelled last year in the redzone and QB Tyrod Taylor (19) had almost as many runs inside the 20 as McCoy (20) did. If he stays healthy and the Bills offense improves in its second season with Greg Roman, it’s not out of the question that McCoy could squeeze into RB1 status if he finds the endzone a few more times, but more than likely his ceiling is capped as an RB2.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury LeSean McCoy expected to play Week 12
Surgery on broken thumb
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Nov 21, 9:52 am

Buffalo Bills
Bills' RB LeSean McCoy had a surgical procedure on his thumb today and will be ready to play this Sunday, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: McCoy dislocated his thumb in Week 11 and never returned to the game but it sounds like he's got a chance to play after having a procedure to set his thumb in place. McCoy owners have dodged a bullet.

Injury Rex Ryan confident McCoy will play
Bills RB listed as Questionable
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 5, 12:30 pm

Buffalo Bills
Rex Ryan says he's confident LeSean McCoy will play Monday night in Seattle. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: McCoy was able to practice this week on a limited basis and it sounds like he'll be a go for Monday night. The Seahawks don't provide a stellar matchup but McCoy should be in line for 20 touches making him a solid RB2.

Percy Harvin signs with Bills
WR emerges from retirement to ink one-year, $1.5M deal
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 1, 11:22 am

Buffalo Bills
Sports agent Greg Barnett on Twitter: "My client Percy Harvin has come out of retirement to sign with the Buffalo Bills for the remainder of the season!" (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Wow. If this were 2011, the Bills would be looking stacked with LeSean McCoy, Reggie Bush and now Harvin, who will be getting around $1 million prorated. Harvin finished 2015 on IR and mulled a comeback before retiring. He's 28 years old and hasn't been fantasy relevant in years, so he's probably left on the waiver wire until he gets in some games and we see what he can do.

Injury McCoy doubtful, Gillislee expected to start
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 28, 12:30 pm

Buffalo Bills
Bills running back LeSean McCoy didn't practice all week after aggravating his hamstring injury in last Sunday's loss at Miami and is officially listed as doubtful to play this week against the Patriots. "Obviously he never practiced," Rex Ryan said, "so I think you guys can figure that out." (Buffalo News)

FFToday's Take: Mike Gillislee is expected to get the start and is on the RB2 radar in Week 8 against the Patriots. Reggie Bush and rookie Jonathan Williams will fill backup roles. The Patriots have given up 2 rushing TDs to running backs this season.

Injury LeSean McCoy misses practices Thursday
Hamstring injury

Buffalo Bills
LeSean McCoy not spotted at start of Bills' practice Thursday. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Rex Ryan went on to say that he's "not real sure" about McCoy playing in Week 8 against the Patriots. Given McCoy was a shell of himself last week, expect Mike Gillislee to get the start.

Injury LeSean McCoy "probably questionable"
Aggravated hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 24, 6:05 pm

Buffalo Bills
After LeSean McCoy aggravated hamstring Sunday, one source said Bills RB “will be same position this week, probably questionable” for Sunday. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It was apparently obvious to just about everyone except the Bills that resting McCoy after a mid-week hamstring pull was the right move. As a result of pushing Shady to play in Week 7, Buffalo will probably now play the week-to-week game with him instead. Owners should expect McCoy to miss multiple weeks and be thrilled if only misses one or two. Mike Gillislee will start and should be considered a serviceable RB2 in his absence.

Injury McCoy expected to be active, could be limited
25-35 play pitch count
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 23, 3:05 am

Buffalo Bills
Bills' RB LeSean McCoy, listed as questionable with hamstring, is expected to play today but could be on 25-35 play pitch count, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Reports early this week stated McCoy would miss Week 7 but that appears to be in question as McCoy was able to make it through a limited practice Friday. If McCoy suits up it will take some of the shine off Mike Gillislee.

Injury LeSean McCoy practices Friday, questionable
Ryan: "We're not ruling Shady out at all"
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 21, 11:45 am

Buffalo Bills
LeSean McCoy was front and center in the stretching line at Bills practice Friday and went through some basic pass-catching drills during the portion of practice that was open to media. Receiver Robert Woods and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus were not at the start of Friday's practice. (Buffalo News)

FFToday's Take: Rex Ryan went on to say: "We're not ruling Shady out at all. We'll be smart with him, but he looked pretty good [today]." It sounds like McCoy will be a gametime decision. If he sits, Mike Gillislee would get the start and be a solid RB2 against the Dolphins defense.

Injury McCoy not expected to play Week 7
Could miss multiple weeks with hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 20, 4:40 pm

Buffalo Bills
I'm told Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is not playing this Sunday and could miss more time thereafter, depending on healing. (Josina Anderson on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: McCoy also battled hamstring injuries last season as well. Owners should be prepared for a multi-week absence, although there has been no indication yet this injury is anywhere near as serious as the one that sidelined McCoy for four weeks in 2015. Mike Gillislee is the next man up and should be expected to receive a fairly heavy workload, getting the occasional breather from Reggie Bush and Jonathan Williams. Gillislee should be treated as a RB2 until McCoy returns.

Injury LeSean McCoy exits practice early
Tight hamstring
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Oct 19, 4:06 pm

Buffalo Bills
LeSean McCoy left practice early with a hamstring injury. Bills coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday the running back's hamstring was tight and will be checked by the medical staff. Ryan said he wasn't immediately sure of the severity of the injury. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: This is a noteworthy development considering LeSean McCoy's injury history and the Bills reliance on their star rusher. He'll likely miss practice Thursday and be questionable heading into the Bills' week 7 tilt with the Dolphins. Backup Mike Gillislee and his 5.7 YPC would see more touches in the event McCoy is unable to play.
