Knee injury will cause veteran quarterback to retire

FF Today's Take: David Garrard's knee just won't let him continue. Reportedly, it swells up after practice. This move thins out the competition in New York and leaves Mark Sanchez and rookie Geno Smith the favorites to handle the majority of quarterback duties in 2013.

QB missed the last two seasons with back and knee injuries
The 35-year-old David Garrard, who hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2010, joins Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Greg McElory and Matt Simms on the roster. Tebow is expected to be released and not part of the quarterback competition, according to sources. New offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg admitted that Sanchez will have every opportunity to resurrect his career in his version of the West Coast offense. (New York Daily News)

FF Today's Take: Sanchez will get every opportunity to remain the starting QB. Brady Quinn is also a candidate to join Garrard in pushing Sanchez in training camp. After missing the last two seasons with injuries, Garrard is off the fantasy radar.
