There was a time when Schaub appeared on the verge of establishing himself as a bona fide upper tier fantasy starting quarterback. After averaging 4,570 passing yards, 26.5 touchdowns and 13.5 interceptions during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Schaub saw his 2011 season cut short after ten games due to a Lisfranc sprain in his foot. He averaged a respectable 19.2 FPts/G last season, which was good enough to finish 11th among fantasy QBs. While that was only 2.6 PPG off his career-high in 2009, the NFL has become more of a passing league over the last couple of years. That fact coupled with the emergence not only of Arian Foster but also Ben Tate in the backfield has put a severe damper on Schaubís fantasy prospects. The Texans are now more of a running team and the absence of a solid starting wide receiver opposite Andre Johnson and the failure of tight end Owen Daniels to reclaim his 2009 form are also impediments to Schaub reclaiming fantasy glory. Consider him a mid to lower tier QB2 in 2012.
Derek Carr creating buzz after final preseason game
There is a very good chance that Matt Schaub's sore elbow won't be getting any better this week. Rookie Derek Carr led the Raiders on four straight touchdown drives to open the game Thursday night. "The great thing is that we have three guys that can be starting quarterbacks for us," head coach Dennis Allen said after the game, throwing Matt McGloin in the mix as well. "I am very happy with the quarterback room. We have to see where Matt (Schaub) is when he comes in on Monday.(San Francisco Chronicle)
FF Today's Take:Schaub has been dealing with tendinitis in his elbow and beat writers have noted that Matt McGloin has looked like the best quarterback during camp. After the game last night, head coach Dennis Allen wasn't as firm in his stance that Schaub will start Week 1. The Raiders quarterback situation is one to avoid in fantasy drafts
Schaub suffering from tendinitis in throwing elbow-- Mon Aug 25 8:26 am --
FF Today's Take:Schaub hasn't had much zip on his throws this preseason and now we know why. Head coach Dennis Allen said he doesn't think it's a serious issue and will get better with rest. Carr is off the fantasy radar until more is known about his elbow. Rookie Derek Carr is waiting in the wings.
