Meet the Dolphins top wide receiver entering 2012. If that seems too scary to you, imagine how Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore and David Garrard feel (hint: maybe they don’t really want the starting job that badly after all). I like Bess – he is a solid slot receiver who can find the open areas against zone defenses but he lacks playmaking ability, as evidenced by his career average of 10.3 yards per reception. With poor quarterback play and Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush gobbling up targets, Bess had career lows in receptions (51) and yards (537) last season. However, he should bounce back in 2012 and a return to his production in the 2009 and 2010 seasons (averages of 77.5 receptions and 789 yards) isn’t out of the question. Bess clearly has more value in PPR leagues and he should be drafted no higher than a WR4. With the expectations for the Dolphins offense extremely low, Bess could be a value on draft day.

Bess headed to Cleveland -- Fri Apr 26 8:00 pm --
Teams swap draft picks | The Miami Dolphins have traded Davone Bess to the Cleveland Browns, and a league source says the veteran receiver has agreed to a three-year extension with his new team. Browns traded their fourth-round pick (No. 104) and fifth-round pick (No. 164) to the Dolphins for Miami's fourth-round pick (No. 111) and a seventh-rounder (No. 217). (Sun Sentinel)
FF Today's Take: Bess was set to enter the final year of his contract in 2013 and suddenly found himself in a crowded receiving corps with Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson. Bess will battle David Nelson for third receiver duties in Cleveland.
| | Dolphins shopping WR Bess -- Wed Apr 24 8:00 pm --
Cleveland could the landing spot | Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland annually points out that no player on his roster is off limits in a trade, especially during the NFL draft.
That might explain why multiple reports claim receiver Davone Bess, a six-year veteran, could be traded on the eve of the 2013 NFL draft. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Dolphins have shopped Bess to numerous teams. TFY Draft founder Tony Pauline tweeted on Wednesday night that one of his sources told him he's 99.9 percent certain Bess will be traded to the Cleveland Browns for a mid-round pick. (Sun Sentinel)
FF Today's Take: Bess is entering the final year of his contract and the additions of Mike Wallace (PIT) and Brandon Gibson (STL) to go along with the re-signing of Brian Hartline make Bess ideal trade bait. Should he land in Cleveland, Bess would battle David Nelson for the third-receiver role behind Josh Gordon and Greg Little.
| | Dolphins, Vikes interested in Wallace -- Wed Mar 6 8:50 pm --
Miami no longer showing interest in Greg Jennings | NFL.com's Jeff Darlington reported Wednesday that "Plan A" for the Dolphins includes a wideout group of Hartline, Davone Bess and Mike Wallace. The Dolphins know Wallace will cost a lot (probably more than what Bowe received from the Kansas City Chiefs) and they sound ready to spend. According to Darlington, the Dolphins' offseason plan "all starts" with bringing Wallace aboard (seriously, check out the piece). It sounds like they are willing to do it at nearly any cost. The Dolphins also expect the Minnesota Vikings to join the bidding for Wallace (which might make Percy Harvin available in a trade. Spicy). But the Dolphins don't sound interested in wide receiver Greg Jennings. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Mike Wallace would give the Dolphins a receiver with game-changing speed - something they don't currently have. With Wallace, Percy Harvin, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, and Brandon Lloyd likely to switch teams before next season, this could just be one of the best offseason classes of wide receivers in the history of the NFL.
