2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Johnson followed up his breakout 2010 campaign with another solid year in 2011, topping 1,000 receiving yards for the second consecutive season and becoming the first player in team history to accomplish the feat. He also became just the third Bills player to record at least 70 receptions in consecutive seasons. Thatís all good and so is the fact that he is clearly the teamís undisputed top wide receiver and that he signed a lucrative contract extension in the offseason, negating any potential for a preseason holdout. The bad news is that the Bills did little to upgrade the starting position opposite Johnson, meaning he can expect plenty of attention in 2012. Johnson also underwent groin surgery, which bothered him during part of last season, but reports indicate that it was minor and wonít affect his availability for the beginning of training camp. While the naysayers will point out that Johnson isnít regarded as an upper tier wide receiver (and that is likely the case), the bottom line is that he has been the focal point of the teamís passing attack over each of the last two years, finishing in the top ten in targets amongst wide receivers both seasons and there is little to suggest he wonít do so again in 2012. Consider him a rock solid WR2 for the coming season.

Injury Chargers lose Stevie Johnson for the season     -- Wed Aug 10 8:57 pm --

Torn meniscus
The San Diego Chargers will have to play the 2016 season without Stevie Johnson. The veteran wide receiver has learned that surgery to repair a meniscus tear will prevent him from suiting up this year, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the results of the surgery. The procedure was successful, per Rapoport, but will require a lengthier rehab process than originally expected. (

FF Today's Take: The new rehab schedule for the injury suffered at the start of training camp will prevent slot receiver Steve Johnson from playing in 2016. The Chargers signed veteran James Jones in the aftermath of this new information. One player that figures to benefit from an increased opportunity is Dontrelle Inman. After posting respectable numbers as a sophomore with limited playing time, Inman may see his targets double if he can secure regular playing time in the slot.
Chargers expected to sign WR James Jones     -- Tue Aug 2 2:30 pm --

FF Today's Take: Jones is expected to replace Steve Johnson who suffered a knee injury on Sunday. Despite a semi-productive season last year (50-890-8) in Green Bay, Jones received very little interest as a free agent this offense. We'll see if he's able to develop a role during camp. For now, he's late-round dart throw in redraft leagues.
Injury Stevie Johnson suffers knee injury     -- Sun Jul 31 4:30 pm --

Carried off the field
Chargers wide receiver Steve Johnson was carried off the field Sunday with a right knee injury after going down in a pass drill. Johnson, who applied no pressure to his right leg as he was carried off, was examined by trainers for several minutes before he was taken inside. (San Diego Union Tribune)

FF Today's Take: No word yet on the severity but there appears to be some legitimate concern for veteran. Johnson had been running with the first team during OTAs and the early portions of camp. Travis Benjamin and Dontrelle Inman would likely see a usage increase if Johnson misses any significant time.
