Spiller a good bet to remain on the roster?     -- Mon Feb 1 7:25 pm --

Will be cheaper to keep than to cut prior to June 1
C.J. Spiller's first year in New Orleans was a flop, partly because of a minor knee surgery he underwent during training camp. But if the Saints cut him before June 1, he will actually count more against the cap ($5.3 million) than if they keep him. So there's a good chance they'll give him another summer to regain his spark. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: With Mark Ingram, Spiller, Khiry Robinson and Tim Hightower among others on the roster, the expectation is the Saints will be able to "downsize" at running back this season. There is still much mystery as to why Spiller became such an afterthought in his first year in New Orleans. An injury-free offseason will be huge for Spiller, who could be a late-round fantasy value this summer if he is able to seize the Darren Sproles/Pierre Thomas role many thought he might earn last year.
Tim Hightower to assume Ingram's role     -- Sun Dec 13 10:12 am --

Spiller's role to remain unchanged
With the injury to #Saints RB Mark Ingram, I'm told to expect Tim Hightower to step in for him. CJ Spiller's workload likely to be unchanged (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: The Saints coaching staff trusts Hightower's ability in pass protection more than Spiller and as a result he's likely to see more reps on the field. Hightower is an RB2 against a decent Tampa Bay run defense.
Injury Mark Ingram placed on IR     -- Wed Dec 9 5:00 pm --

Shoulder injury
New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been placed on injured reserve. Ingram reportedly injured his shoulder, and was not present during the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday. He was officially placed on IR Wednesday afternoon. (

FF Today's Take: The Saints worst fears were confirmed after tests on Mark Ingram's shoulder this afternoon. This marks the third straight season that Ingram has failed to stay healthy. The door is wide open for C.J. Spiller to become the lead back a what will probably become a RBBC with Tim Hightower also factoring into the mix. Both running backs are worth picking up with Spiller getting more value in PPR formats.
Injury Mark Ingram dealing with serious shoulder issue?     -- Wed Dec 9 1:29 pm --

Could be season-ending
I'm told Saints RB Mark Ingram is dealing with a serious shoulder injury. There is some fear it could be season ending. (Rand Getlin on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: If true, this would be another huge blow to the fantasy running back position as Ingram has been a top five performer on the season. Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller are next up on the depth chart. It's difficult to imagine either one taking on Ingram's full workload. Some form of RBBC would likely take place.
