|Draft: 2008 Round 2 (30)

|The Giants tight end situation took a turn for the worse in the Super Bowl when Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum both suffered torn ACL’s during the team’s 21-17 victory over the Patriots. That led to the signing of free agent Martellus Bennett, a career underachiever in Dallas. While Bennett is a talented player with outstanding size and solid speed, he comes to the Giants after a four-year run in Dallas where he failed to emerge as a weapon for the Cowboys. After a solid rookie season in 2008 with 20 receptions for 283 yards and four touchdowns, Bennett averaged just 22 receptions for 188 yards over the next three seasons, failing to find the end zone. While his signing seemed to signal a solid opportunity, offseason reports that he had ballooned to close to 300 pounds put a damper on those expectations. Even though the Giants lack a proven third wide receiver behind Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, it is hard to get excited by Bennett’s prospects for 2012. Pluck him off the waiver wire if he has a solid start to the season.
|TE Zach Miller wants big contract -- Tue Feb 2 1:45 pm --|
Reportedly seeking $5 million per year
|here have been some robust pay days for tight ends since the end of the season and while those deals are out of the realm of what Zach Miller could command, the veteran is still seeking a big contract. Miller, who had a breakout second half of the season for the Chicago Bears, is asking for $5 million per year in a new contract, sources with knowledge of the situation told the Tribune. Unless that target figure drops in negotiations, it’s difficult to imagine a deal getting done before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in March. (Chicago Tribune)|
FF Today's Take: A veteran, Miller didn't sniff the regular season from 2012-2014 and now wants a sizeable pay increase after seven-week resurgence while Martellus Bennett was hurt. The Bears were rumored to be shopping Bennett last off-season so there is some merit for the club bringing Miller back, but it would likely be at a lower price than Miller and his agent are currently floating.
| TE Martellus Bennett lands on injured reserve -- Tue Dec 8 2:10 pm --|
|Bears have placed TE Martellus Bennett on season-ending injured reserve with a rib injury & signed TE Rob Housler. (Chicago Bears on Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: Bennett has been bothered by a rib injury since Week 11 and hasn't had more than 3 receptions since Week 9. Zach Miller moves back into fantasy relevancy with Robert Housler on the roster for insurance.
| Martellus Bennett, Royal, Carey out for Thursday -- Wed Nov 25 2:30 pm --|
Bears TE battling rib injury
|Bears rule TE Martellus Bennett, WR Eddie Royal and RB Ka'Deem Carey out for Thursday night's game at #Packers (Brad Biggs on Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: Bennett has been battling a rib issue and was limited in Tuesday's practice. His absence means Zach Miller will get the start and will be a TE2 consideration against a Packers defense giving up the 8th-most fantasy points to tight ends.
| Alshon Jeffery not expected to play -- Sun Nov 22 7:30 am --|
Missed practice Thursday and Friday
|Bears WR Alshon Jeffery, who missed the final two practices of the week with groin and shoulder injuries, not expected to play vs. Broncos (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: Jeffery missed practice Thursday and Friday which is never a good sign for availability on Sunday. With Jeffery down, Marquess Wilson becomes the top Bears wideout. Expect Marc Mariani too see more snaps and Martellus Bennett to see more targets.
| Forte, Jeffery miss practice on Thursday -- Thu Nov 19 5:50 pm --|
MCL, groin injuries
|One day after both were limited participants, RB Matt Forte and WR Alshon Jeffery did not participate Thursday.
Forte has a sprained MCL in his knee and Jeffery a groin problem. One contributing factor to Thursday’s status was the fact the Bears practiced indoors and on artificial turf, which is traditionally tough on those injuries. Jeffery — who the team said also has a shoulder injury — played Sunday, though he caught only three passes. Forte has missed the past two games since hurting his knee at home against the Vikings. (Chicago Sun-Times)|
FF Today's Take: Forte has already suggested that he has to consider the Bears will be playing on a short week next week, which is a strong hint that he will miss this week against the Broncos and try to go on Thanksgiving. As for Jeffery, Friday's practice report will be critical. If he is forced to miss time, Marquess Wilson and Martellus Bennett figure to be on the receiving end of a lot of targets in Week 11.
