|The Giants tight end situation took a turn for the worse in the Super Bowl when Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum both suffered torn ACLís during the teamís 21-17 victory over the Patriots. That led to the signing of free agent Martellus Bennett, a career underachiever in Dallas. While Bennett is a talented player with outstanding size and solid speed, he comes to the Giants after a four-year run in Dallas where he failed to emerge as a weapon for the Cowboys. After a solid rookie season in 2008 with 20 receptions for 283 yards and four touchdowns, Bennett averaged just 22 receptions for 188 yards over the next three seasons, failing to find the end zone. While his signing seemed to signal a solid opportunity, offseason reports that he had ballooned to close to 300 pounds put a damper on those expectations. Even though the Giants lack a proven third wide receiver behind Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, it is hard to get excited by Bennettís prospects for 2012. Pluck him off the waiver wire if he has a solid start to the season.
Bears bench Cutler -- Wed Dec 17 7:15 pm --
Jimmy Clausen to start
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Cutler has been benched for Jimmy Clausen, according to two sources informed of the situation. The move to Clausen calls into question whether Cutler will be the team's starting quarterback next season. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Chicago's offense carries a lot of risk for fantasy owners as the fantasy season winds down. Jimmy Clausen has only attempted nine passes this year and hasn't started since 2010 making Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett far from a sure thing for owners in the playoffs. Nonetheless, Matt Forte should still enough touches to remain a worthwhile fantasy starter for Week 16. Furthermore, rumors are mounting that the Bears will make significant changes to the team for next season which will have a direct impact on players such as Jay Cutler in keeper and dynasty formats.
Martellus Bennett rib injury, Questionable -- Fri Nov 7 3:10 pm --
Missed practice Friday
Martellus Bennett has been listed as questionable for the game after missing practice on Friday because of a rib injury. Bennett popped up on the injury report for the first time on Thursday as a limited participant in practice, which suggests he suffered the injury during that dayís practice. (Pro Football Talk)
FF Today's Take: It's never a good sign when players miss practice on Friday but it should be noted Bennett said after practice he will probably play. Bennett owners should have plan B in place. The Bears and Packers play Sunday night.
