Carson Palmer ruled out for TNF-- Thu Oct 6 7:20 pm --
Concussion; did not make the trip to San Francisco
Carson Palmer will not play Thursday night versus the San Francisco 49ers. Drew Stanton will make his first start of the season.
Palmer suffered a concussion on Sunday in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Coach Bruce Arians said Palmer made progress in recovery, but won't travel with the team out of precaution.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Despite Arians' optimism earlier in the week, Palmer wasn't going to play less than four full days after suffering a concussion. Stanton should be good enough to keep the Cardinals' playmakers afloat in fantasy, but don't expect any huge performances from anyone outside of perhaps David Johnson. Stanton can be ignored even in two-quarterback leagues.
Drew Stanton to start Thursday night-- Wed Oct 5 2:45 pm --
Palmer won't make the trip
Quarterback Carson Palmer will not travel with the Arizona Cardinals to the Bay Area and has been ruled out against the San Francisco 49ers, coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Palmer suffered a concussion in Week 4 so it's not surprising on a short week that Drew Stanton will get the call. Palmer has thrown six TDs in four games so Stanton may not be as big of downgrade as it may appear. That said, even in a plus matchup against the San Francisco Stanton is more of a QB2.
Optimism Carson Palmer will play Week 5-- Mon Oct 3 6:05 pm --
FF Today's Take:Arians tends to be more optimistic than most coaches regarding injuries, so it is fair to be skeptical of his endorsement. It's hard to feel great about using Palmer this week given how much Thursday night games seem to affect passing games because Drew Stanton isn't going to carry Larry Fitzgerald or John Brown to fantasy glory. Unless there is a glowing report about Palmer's status over the next 48 hours, owners should probably plan on playing another quarterback in Week 5.
