Outlook: With Brown, you have to decide whether you are getting the player who looked like a fantasy star for the first part of 2009 or the injury prone tease who flashes signs resembling a stud RB1 (see 2007 and 2009)? He’s missed an average of four games a year over his five-year career and has only one 1,000-yard season. His 177 fantasy points in 2008, the best fantasy season of his career, would normally rank as a low end RB2. Just giving you the facts. He’s going to go higher than he should in most drafts but the value isn’t going to be there.
Ricky Williams looking for extension-- Wed Aug 18 5:40 pm -- Dolphins' RB wants to play through 2011
"Ideally, right now, I would like to get a year extension with the Miami Dolphins, play this year and next year and then really focus on my schooling," Williams said. The Dolphins are aware of his desire for an extension. He's 33 years old, borderline ancient for a running back. But head coach Tony Sparano has marveled at Williams' condition in training camp and football operations boss Bill Parcells is a fan. With top running back Ronnie Brown out with a broken foot last year, Williams rushed for 1,121 yards and 11 touchdowns. Williams' base salary for this season is $4.35 million. (ESPN.com)
FF Today's Take:We'll know after this season if last year was simply an aberration for the aging back, or whether Ricky Williams can continue to be a dominant force into his mid-thirties.
Brown not concerned with injuries-- Tue Aug 3 11:35 pm -- Miami RB feels better than he has in "last 2-3 years"
RB Ronnie Brown is pretty good on the field, which is one reason Brown admitted the topic of Miami having twin 1,000-yard rusher has come up in conversations between he and Ricky Williams.
Brown says one reason for such optimism is that injuries that have plagued him -- a blown out knee in 2007 and a fractured foot last year -- are not concerns right now.
"These last few years, I've had a couple of injuries I've had to deal with," Brown said. "The good part is coming into this training camp I actually feel a little bit better than I have the last two or three years."(Miami Herald)
FF Today's Take:Brown also told the Herald that his knee "feels great," and the foot is "a non-issue", so much so that he doesn't even apply extra tape to it. Still, Brown has shown little durability, making it through the full 16-game schedule just once in five seasons. Keep that in mind for him and Williams in re-draft leagues this summer.
Ronnie Brown not planning holdout-- Tue Jun 15 7:30 pm -- Still pursuing long-term deal
Ronnie Brown's not stressing about his contract, and he advises Miami Dolphins fans not to read too much into the fact he hasn't signed the offer on the table, even though he reiterated he's in no hurry to sign it.
Brown wants a multiyear contract instead of the one-year tender for $3.97 million the Dolphins have extended. But the Dolphins haven't offered one, purposely putting Brown in a play-for-pay situation.
Brown's only leverage is his John Hancock, and it appears he's using it. Tuesday, though, Brown said he'll be at training camp and will report on time.
"It's not a big deal on either side, them or myself," Brown said, referring to the quiet contract talks. "There's not any tension either way."(Sun-Sentinel.com)
FF Today's Take:Just another player wanting a long-term deal while the NFL faces the possibility of not playing football in 2011. Brown's hopeful his participation in all of the team's offseason program - and the fact his recovery from the Lisfranc injury he suffered in November is ahead of schedule - will sway Dolphins' management.
