2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Romo put together a strong 2011 season after missing ten games in 2010 due to a broken collarbone. He topped 4,000 passing yards for the third time with 4,184 yards and threw for 31 touchdowns, the second highest total of his career. The truth is that Romo may have had the best year of his career last season as he continued to play well despite missing Miles Austin for six weeks, Jason Witten struggling somewhat down the stretch and Dez Bryant failing to register a breakout season in his second year in the league. Part of Romoís success was based on the chemistry he had with Laurent Robinson, the teamís third wide receiver who signed with Jacksonville in the offseason. Itís anybodyís guess who will attempt to replace that production in 2012 but the odds are that none of the candidates will come closing to matching Robinsonís 858 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. While Romoís statistics from last season would have been good enough to make him a top five fantasy quarterback a few years ago, he finished as the 8th ranked player at his position. There is little reason to suggest that he will improve on that ranking in 2012. Consider him a low end QB1.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Jerry Jones now hinting Dak Prescott is starter     -- Tue Nov 1 11:15 am --

Cowboys owner finally admitting rookie is ahead of Tony Romo
Jon Machota on Twitter: "Jerry Jones on what they'll do when Romo is healthy: 'You want to be very mindful of what you got going. Chemistry has to be recognized.'" (Twitter)

FF Today's Take: It makes plenty of sense to just come out and say that Dak Prescott is the starter going forward until there's a reason for a change. Tony Romo is still recovering from a serious back injury and Prescott is playing very well in his stead.
Injury Prescott to remain starter through at least Wk 9     -- Thu Oct 27 7:00 pm --

Tony Romo still working his way back from back surgery
Discussed Cowboys starting QB on our Thursday Night Football pregame show: Pencil Dak Prescott in for another start: 11/6 vs. Browns. Decision time after that. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: This suggests Jerry Jones & Co. may use the next two games to see if the rookie can hold up to the pressure of playing for the starting job in the same way he has managed it during Tony Romo's absence. If Prescott impresses once again versus the Eagles this weekend, he should be a near-lock to keep the job in a favorable matchup versus Cleveland in Week 9. Continue to treat the rookie as a low-end QB1 until further notice.
Injury Romo throws in practice     -- Wed Oct 26 1:41 pm --

Inching closer to returning from back injury
FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- Tony Romo is participating in throwing drills at practice for the first time since the Dallas quarterback broke a bone in his back in a preseason game at Seattle in August. The 36-year-old worked in several individual drills Wednesday in shorts and a T-shirt with his teammates in full pads. While he almost certainly won't play against Philadelphia on Sunday, it's the biggest step in his return. (AP Sports)

FF Today's Take: As expected, Dak Prescott's job is safe for Week 8 as Tony Romo is not even healthy to practice in pads. Romo is expected to be cleared in the next few weeks and Dallas intends to reinsert him into the lineup despite Prescott's success. Like Prescott, match ups will likely dictate Romo's fantasy value from week to week.
Dak Prescott to start vs. Eagles in Week 8     -- Wed Oct 19 1:30 pm --

Romo may not be ready after Cowboys' bye week
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday Dak Prescott will start Week 8 versus the Philadelphia Eagles, per a source informed of the situation. (

FF Today's Take: Dak Prescott has led the Cowboys to a 5-1 record and has been a top ten fantasy quarterback over the past three weeks. This news would indicate that Tony Romo isn't likely to be back until the calendar flips to November.
Injury Tony Romo not yet ready for team drills     -- Tue Oct 11 11:28 am --

Cowboys QB return possibly delayed, Prescott maintaining value
Quarterback Tony Romo underwent an MRI exam on his back Monday, but coach Jason Garrett did not have an update on the results when he met with reporters. He did say that he felt it would be ďa little bit further down the roadĒ before Romo would be able to work his way into team drills on a limited basis. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

FF Today's Take: Looks like Week 8 might have been a tad optimistic for a Romo return. the Cowboys can take their time with rookie Dak Prescott playing like a veteran signal caller in the interim.
