2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Romo put together a strong 2011 season after missing ten games in 2010 due to a broken collarbone. He topped 4,000 passing yards for the third time with 4,184 yards and threw for 31 touchdowns, the second highest total of his career. The truth is that Romo may have had the best year of his career last season as he continued to play well despite missing Miles Austin for six weeks, Jason Witten struggling somewhat down the stretch and Dez Bryant failing to register a breakout season in his second year in the league. Part of Romoís success was based on the chemistry he had with Laurent Robinson, the teamís third wide receiver who signed with Jacksonville in the offseason. Itís anybodyís guess who will attempt to replace that production in 2012 but the odds are that none of the candidates will come closing to matching Robinsonís 858 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. While Romoís statistics from last season would have been good enough to make him a top five fantasy quarterback a few years ago, he finished as the 8th ranked player at his position. There is little reason to suggest that he will improve on that ranking in 2012. Consider him a low end QB1.

News From The Past 90 Days
Texans ship Brock Osweiler to Browns     -- Thu Mar 9 3:36 pm --

Salary dump
Stunner: Texans trade Brock Osweiler AND 2018 2nd-rd pick to CLEV for Browns to take Osweiler contract off Houston books, sources tell ESPN. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: You don't normally seem salary dumps of this magnitude but reportedly the Browns acquired Osweiler, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick from the Texans. Houston received a 2017 fourth-round pick. This move paves the way for the Texans to go after Tony Romo.
Romo to be released Thursday     -- Wed Mar 8 1:00 pm --

Cowboy since 2003 set to be free agent
Cowboys are releasing Tony Romo on Thursday, sources tell @toddarcher and me. Let the Romo recruiting in Houston and Denver begin. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Romo's future has been widely discussed for months and its no surprise it will end with a release from the Cowboys. It's likely he'll be designated a post-June cut to save $14 million against the cap. Romo (36) has battled injuries limiting him to just five games over the last two years. A fit with the Broncos or Texans seems likely.
Paxton Lynch in mix for starting QB job     -- Fri Jan 20 9:00 am --

Broncos leaving options open at QB
With a new head coach and a new offensive staff in place in Denver, the Broncos have an opportunity to go in a new direction. According to Mike Klis of KUSA, the Broncos are prepared to give 2016 first-rounder Paxton Lynch a chance to win the starting job this offseason, and want to push him toward that goal. (ProFootballTalk)

FF Today's Take: It makes sense for the new regime as Trevor Siemian proved to be a capable but not outstanding quarterback in 2016. There's been speculation that Tony Romo would like to play in Denver but there's been no indication that the Broncos are interested in the veteran QB.
Dak, Zeke likely to play limited snaps in Week 17     -- Thu Dec 29 6:35 pm --

Sanchez, McFadden seeing bulk of reps in practice
Along with Cowboys QB Mark Sanchez receiving most of the reps, expect same with RB Darren McFadden. An inexperienced LT adds to resting starters. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: The Cowboys have nothing to play for in Week 17, so exposing Dak Prescott or Ezekiel Elliott and probably even Dez Bryant to injury doesn't make a ton of sense. The absence of LT Tyron Smith may also be contributing to their thinking as well. The only minor surprise here may be that Dallas isn't thinking about giving Tony Romo some reps, although it is understandable the team wants him healthy if it plans on trading him this offseason.
