2013 Outlook
Depth Chart
In 2011, Burleson had a bigger role in the Lions offense, seeing increases in his targets (86 to 110), completion to target percentage (66.4% in 2011), receptions (73, a career high) and yards (757). Thatís the good news. And hereís the bad. Burleson seems to have lost whatever explosiveness he had left, with his yards per reception dropping for the second consecutive season (from 12.9 to 11.4 to 10.4) and his touchdown count declining from six to three. Did we mention the Lions have used 2nd round picks in consecutive years (Titus Young in 2011 and Ryan Broyles this year) to upgrade the wide receiver position? The writing is on the wall, folks. Young had a solid rookie season and figures to earn more looks in 2012, pushing Burleson inside to a slot receiving role more frequently. Considering the Lions are likely to throw it less than they did in 2012 when they led the league in passing plays, Burlesonís fantasy prospects this season arenít looking so great. And itís not like he was great in 2011, averaging just 5.9 FPts/G. Heís a WR5 with little upside.

News From The Past 90 Days
Nate Burleson to visit Dolphins     -- Thu Apr 3 12:50 pm --

Miami looking for veteran wideout
Nate Burleson hopes his career keeps swimming along. The free-agent wide receiver will visit the Miami Dolphins. The former Detroit Lions receiver told "NFL AM" he will land in Miami on Thursday evening, as NFL Media's Steve Wyche announced during the NFL Network morning show. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Burleson is looking to sign on with the fourth team of his career (Minnesota, Seattle, Detroit) and could be a nice fit in Miami where a veteran receiver is needed. If signed, he could compete with Brandon Gibson for the No.3 role but in all likelihood would be veteran insurance for Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline. Burleson started 8 games last season in Detroit but missed time due to a broken arm.
Golden Tate lands in Detroit     -- Wed Mar 12 3:35 pm --

5-year deal, $13.25 million guaranteed
The Detroit Lions got some much needed help for their receiving corps today, signing Golden Tate to a five-year contract. ESPN reported that Tateís deal is worth $31 million, with $13.25 million in guaranteed money. (Detroit Free Press)

FF Today's Take: Now that Nate Burleson has been released, Tate will slide into the starting lineup along side Calvin Johnson. While Tate moves into a pass-first offense he will have to share touches with two capable receiving running backs (Bush & Bell). The 900 yards and 5 TDs he scored in Seattle last season would be a good expectation in 2014.
Lions release Nate Burleson     -- Thu Feb 13 8:00 pm --

Set to count more than $7.5 million against the cap
The Lions released Nate Burleson and veteran safety Louis Delmas on Thursday in cost-saving moves that freed up $11.5 million in much-needed cap space. He was set to count more than $7.5 million against the cap because of previous contract restructures, and at 32 was coming off two injury-riddled seasons. (Detroit Free Press)

FF Today's Take: Burleson missed seven games last season with a broken arm but still finished second on the team in receptions by a wide receiver with 39. Dallas and Tampa Bay are rumored to be interested in Burleson's services.
