News From The Past 90 Days
Andre Johnson primed for huge role with Colts     -- Thu May 21 5:00 pm --

Big things expected from former Texan
The Houston Texans were pretty direct with Andre Johnson before parting ways with their all-time great. They wanted him to accept a lesser role, crazy as that might sound for a receiver with seven 1,000-yard seasons. But after watching just a single practice in Indianapolis, it's clear the Colts do not share that opinion. Johnson is not only getting the starter's treatment, he's also showing himself capable of playing a variety of roles. Johnson was featured extensively in the slot on Wednesday, a spot that gives the Colts numerous options in the routes he can run. Johnson showed himself adept at working between the hash marks, and that's an area where the Colts could use some help. (Indianapolis Star)

FF Today's Take: Andrew Luck is by far the best quarterback Johnson has played with in his career, while the threat of T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett going deep should be enough to open things up underneath. It should come as no surprise if AJ pushes the 100-catch mark once again and/or tops 10 touchdowns for the first time in his career.
Andre Johnson agrees with Colts     -- Wed Mar 11 4:00 pm --

3-year, $21 million deal
Andre Johnson is joining the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran wide receiver tweeted Wednesday. Johnson was released by the Houston Texans earlier this week, ending his 12-year tenure there. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The deal is reportedly worth $21 million over three years. The Colts will now sport a wide receiving corps of Johnson, T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief. The Colts are a pass-first offense but like to spread the ball around, especially the goaline. Johnson hasn't been a TD-machine the last four years but is a good bet to improve upon his 85-936-3 line from last season. He's in the WR2 discussion.
Andre Johnson still weighing his options     -- Wed Mar 11 1:45 pm --

Eight teams reportedly interested
Andre Johnson's first visit was with the Colts. 7 other teams interested. Taking it one day at a time I'm told sorting through things. (Jason LaCanfora on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Johnson was released by the Texans and reportedly met with the Colts yesterday. He would make a good fit for a number of playoff-caliber teams in need of veteran wide receiver help. Indianapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New England, San Diego and Carolina seem to fit the description.
Texans release Andre Johnson     -- Mon Mar 9 3:20 pm --

End of an era
The Texans officially released Andre Johnson on Monday, ending the wide receiverís storied 12-year career in Houston. Johnson was informed last week he would either be traded or released. The Texans parted ways with Johnson the day before free agency begins. He is now free to sign with any team in the league. (Houston Chronicle)

FF Today's Take: With no team wanting to trade for Johnson's contract, he was released... as expected. The Ravens, who are expected to lose Torrey Smith, may have an interest in the veteran wideout. DeAndre Hopkins is expected to lead the Texans in receiving this season.
Andre Johnson given permission to seek trade     -- Mon Mar 2 6:24 pm --

Reduced role doesn't sit well with AJ
Texans gave Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade. Told him he'd have a reduced role next season. He asked to be traded or cut instead. (John McClain on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: As I wrote in my Early WR Rankings article the torch was passed to DeAndre Hopkins last season and now it appears the Texans are making it official. Johnson will be 34 in July and his contract over the next two years makes it highly unlikely the Texans can find a trade partner. If released, Johnson will certainly have a market for his services. Playoff caliber teams (NE, BAL, SEA) in need of a veteran receiver would give him an opportunity.
