2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
With Jason Campbell out and the Raiders desperate to hang on in the tight AFC West, they swapped 1st and 2nd round draft choices with Cincinnati in order to acquire Carson Palmer. Palmer’s acquisition failed to spark an Oakland playoff berth but his performance in 2011 suggests the team has the quarterback position stabilized for the next several years. While his statistics from last season (2,753 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, 16 interceptions in ten games) were a notch above ugly, he clearly had a number of factors working against him. He was given precious little time to learn the team’s playbook and starting running back Darren McFadden was lost for the season in Palmer’s first game with the team, forcing Palmer to lean heavily on Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore. A closer look reveals that Palmer threw six of his interceptions in his first two games and four more in a blowout loss to the Packers, meaning he threw six picks in his other seven games. In addition, he threw for 299 or more yards in five of his nine starts. With an improved offensive line, hopefully 16 games with McFadden in the lineup and a healthy, more established group of wide receivers, look for Palmer to have a more impressive 2012 season. Consider him a solid QB2 with upside.

Injury Cardinals fear torn ACL for Carson Palmer     -- Sun Nov 9 7:41 am --

Drew Stanton expected to be starting QB
Per multiple reports, the Cardinals fear that quarterback Carson Palmer has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. It’s the same left knee in which Palmer tore an ACL on a low hit in the first throw of the wild-card game to cap the 2005 season. (ProFootballTalk)

FF Today's Take: A tough break for Palmer who just signed a three-year contract extension earlier this week. Drew Stanton will take over as the starting quarterback in Arizona. He was below average in three starts earlier this season completing 49 percent of his throws for 176 yards and .67 TDs per game against the Giants, 49ers and Broncos.
Injury Carson Palmer likely to start for Cardinals     -- Sun Oct 12 8:32 am --

Missed passed three games with nerve injury
Big news for the Cardinals: QB Carson Palmer is slated to get the start for them, his first game back from a nerve injury. (Ian Rapoport via Twitter)

FF Today's Take: The team is expected to make a decision on Palmer a couple hours before the game but it appears he will start if all goes well. Palmer won't be 100 percent but his presence will help a Cardinals passing game that ranks 29th in the league. Michael Floyd had five catches for 119 yards with Palmer as the starting QB in Week 1.
Injury Cardinals starting QB still undecided     -- Fri Oct 10 2:30 pm --

All QBs were at practice Friday
Friday came and went, and the Cardinals do not know who will start at quarterback Sunday against the Redskins. “Honest to God, for the first time in 20 years, I really don’t know who’s starting,” coach Bruce Arians said. All the quarterbacks were at practice and throwing Friday. But Drew Stanton had yet to take/pass his concussion test and Carson Palmer was flying to Denver to have a late afternoon session at Muscle Activation Techniques, the place he got worked on last weekend. (

FF Today's Take: If either Palmer or Stanton are cleared to play, they will get the nod over Logan Thomas. For now, Andre Ellington is the only Cardinals player with stable fantasy value until a starting quarterback is named.
Logan Thomas in line for first career start     -- Thu Oct 9 6:25 pm --

Stanton likely out w/ concussion, Palmer (shoulder) limited
No Drew Stanton at open portion of Cardinals practice. Carson Palmer was there, throwing some, not quite as gingerly as before. (Darren Urban on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: The 6-6, 250-pound Logan Thomas is a bit of a freakish athlete, but an incredibly raw quarterback prospect the Cards wanted to develop - and not play - this year. Although he should be on every dynasty league roster, Thomas can be avoided in redraft formats until further notice. Michael Floyd, Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown all probably need to be benched in most fantasy leagues as well.
Injury Carson Palmer advised to rest shoulder     -- Thu Oct 2 5:05 pm --

Surgery unlikely
After visiting with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins for additional information regarding his shoulder, Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has been diagnosed with an "axillary nerve contusion" - a numbness over part of the outer shoulder, shoulder weakness, especially when lifting the arm up and away from the body. HC Bruce Arians mentioned on Wednesday that Palmer could be doubtful for Thursday practice but it is possible he still could be the backup QB this weekend. A lot will depend on his condition Thursday through Sunday. (Fox Sports 910)

FF Today's Take: Palmer suffered the injury 25 days ago. The article goes on to say this type of injury tends to get better on its own and that some people do not need treatment (depending on the cause of the disorder), but that it can take months to recover in certain cases. As of now, Drew Stanton should be considered the starter for most of October, if not into November.
