McNabb Expects Pair To Return     -- Wed Jan 27 3:00 pm --

QB Believes Westbrook, Vick To Remain Eagles
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said he expects running back Brian Westbrook and quarterback Michael Vick to return to the Eagles next season. “He looks forward to getting back,” McNabb said of Westbrook following the NFC’s Pro Bowl practice Wednesday. “All the talk people are saying on retirement or whatever it may be, it’s all false.” When asked if he thinks Vick will be back for a second season, McNabb simply said, “Yes.” Westbrook’s future came into question after concussions caused him to miss seven games this season. Westbrook, 30, finished with 274 yards on 61 carries and was spelled or replaced by rookie LeSean McCoy, who had 637 yards on 155 carries. Vick signed a two-year deal to be McNabb’s backup last season but speculation is that his option won’t be picked up or he will be traded, especially since Vick has expressed a desire to be a starting quarterback next season. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: McNabb is not guaranteed to return himself, so take this worth a grain of salt for now. The Vikings (if Brett Favre retires) and Browns (former Eagles personnel man Tom Heckert is the Browns' new GM) are quite likely to pursue McNabb while the Rams are said to be eyeing Vick. Philadelphia will not lose both QBs, but they could easily lose one. It's safe to say that neither Vick (over $5M) or Westbrook (over $7 M) will return at their current price tags for the 2010 season.
Eagles' Westbrook Cleared To Play     -- Wed Dec 23 12:52 pm --

Reid Says Westbrook 'Ready To Roll'
PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has been cleared to play after two concussions and is expected to return against the Denver Broncos. Coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday that Westbrook did "perfect" on his testing and is "ready to roll" for the NFC East-leading Eagles (10-4) in Sunday's home game. (AP)

FF Today's Take: Westbrook's return creates some uncertainty for fantasy owners. It is unknown just how many touches Westbrook will get this weekend against pretty good run Broncos run defense. Consider Westbrook and LeSean McCoy risky plays for week 16.
Injury Westbrook To Play Wk 16?     -- Mon Dec 21 6:40 pm --

"Right Now It Looks Pretty Good"
Philadelphia's dynamic offense may see the return of another Eagles icon: Running back Brian Westbrook. "We'll know more here by tomorrow," Eagles coach Andy Reid said at his Monday news conference about the possibility of Westbrook playing. "Right now it looks pretty good." Westbrook has been out since suffering his second concussion in three weeks, Nov. 15 against the San Diego Chargers. He suffered his first concussion in a Monday night game against Washington on Oct. 26, sat out two weeks, came back against San Diego and suffered his second. He's missed the past five games. Westbrook returned to practice last week but was inactive for Sunday's win over San Francisco. Now, he may be ready to play. "I think he'll be pretty fresh," Reid said. "He'll have fresh legs out there. Obviously he's not going to play the whole game. [We will] make sure we keep track of how many plays he plays if it comes down to that." (AP)

FF Today's Take: The return of Westbrook will be good for the Eagles but likely won't help any fantasy owners. It's unlikely Westbrook will receive a full workload Sunday against Denver and will only deplete the opportunities for LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver.
Injury Westbrook Still A Ways Away     -- Wed Dec 16 9:30 pm --

Getting Legs Back After Long Rest
By all indications, running back Brian Westbrook and wide receiver Kevin Curtis (WR, DB) probably won’t play Sunday against San Francisco although each will continue to practice this week and neither has been ruled out. Despite making it through practice last week without any setbacks, Westbrook is “still not there,” Andy Reid said. Westbrook is still undergoing daily concussion tests and still getting his legs back after missing six of his last seven games and seven of the team’s 13. Westbrook will take most of his reps this week on the scout team. “He literally wasn’t doing anything for a couple of weeks there,” Reid said. “You can’t throw him back in.” (The Wilmington News Journal)

FF Today's Take: Though largely ineffective the last two weeks, LeSean McCoy will likely remain the Eagles' starting RB for at least another week. It looks like coach Reid wants his veteran RB to be as healthy as possible for the postseason.
Injury Eagles' Westbrook To Practice     -- Wed Dec 9 1:45 pm --

Concussion
PHILADELPHIA -- Brian Westbrook is returning to practice with the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time since sustaining two concussions in a three-week span. Coach Andy Reid says the star running back will be eased back into action by working with the scout team Wednesday, and he hasn't ruled him out for Sunday's game at the New York Giants. (AP)

FF Today's Take: Westbrook owners shouldn't plan on using him this week against the Giants. If Westbrook returns to action this season it could create a dreaded RBBC with LeSean McCoy in the fantasy season's most crucial weeks.
Westbrook Still Visiting Specialists     -- Tue Dec 1 6:45 pm --

Reid Uncertain About His RB's Future
Brian Westbrook will make another visit to the concussion specialists in Pittsburgh this week, but coach Andy Reid said he didn't know exactly when and couldn't say what it might mean for the running back's immediate football future. Reid said trainer Rick Burkholder was in the process yesterday of setting up the appointments for Westbrook, who visited Joseph Maroon, a neurosurgeon, and Michael Collins, a neuropsychologist, at the University of Pittsburgh on Nov. 18. Westbrook, who has missed the last two games, performed some physical activities last week. "He had a mild headache after a workout last week, so we'll just see what the doctor says," Reid said. "It's up to what they say." Reid said he didn't know if Westbrook could be cleared to practice if he did well in the tests. (philly.com)

FF Today's Take: While this is a very fluid situation, little new information was shed in this most recent update outside of the fact that Westbrook experienced a mild headache after a workout last week. While no injury report has been released yet, the veteran RB is almost certain to miss Week 13 and is no sure bet to return at any point this season. Rookie LeSean McCoy will continue to see the most snaps in Westbrook's absence.
Westbrook To Miss At Least Three Weeks     -- Fri Nov 20 3:00 pm --

Return Date Still Uncertain
Brian Westbrook, meanwhile, is out for the Bears game as he recovers from a concussion. Eagles coach Andy Reid confirmed that Westbrook would also out for next week's game against the Redskins and likely the game following at Atlanta. "I think the doctors want to see how he does after two weeks, what kind of symptoms he has," Reid said. "And then they'll just go back through and evaluate him after that, two to three weeks. We'll just see how he feels after that." (philadelphiaeagles.com)

FF Today's Take: It's highly unlikely Westbrook would return to the field right away even if the doctors clear him to resume physical activity. While it is not advisable to drop him in fantasy leagues yet, the chances of Westbrook being useful before Week 16 are slim at best. LeSean McCoy steps into a feature-back role again and makes for a strong RB2 going forward.
Injury Westbrook Suffers Another Concussion     -- Mon Nov 16 7:00 am --

Football Future Uncertain
In his first action since suffering a concussion against the Redskins on Oct. 26, Westbrook suffered another. He left yesterday's game after making a 9-yard, third-quarter catch on which he was tackled by San Diego's Stephen Cooper and Steve Gregory, a linebacker and a safety. Unlike last time, Westbrook wasn't down on the field; it wasn't immediately clear he was hurt. McCoy, who had barely played before that, suddenly was getting all the reps, with Westbrook standing on the sideline, wearing a baseball cap. Eventually, there was an announcement of a Westbrook concussion. Coach Andy Reid indicates that he didn't know how Westbrook got hurt, but Reid also said, "That was a heck of a hit he took." "I don't know," Reid said, when asked if he thought this second concussion could be career-threatening. "It's too early right now. In these types of situations, football is secondary. We've got to look [out for] this kid and for his future and make sure everything's OK for him before he gets back out there." (Philadelphia Daily News)

FF Today's Take: Given the way concussions are being handled by the NFL, this could be a career threatening injury for Westbrook. It seems unlikely that he will play anytime in the near future. LeSean McCoy will likely take over as the Eagles starting running back with Leonard Weaver seeing carries as well.
Injury Westbrook Expected To Play     -- Fri Nov 13 6:30 pm --

Eagles RB Participates In Practice Friday
Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will be back on the field Sunday against the San Diego Chargers after missing two games because of a concussion. Westbrook, who also has been bothered by a sore ankle, practiced twice this week. He deemed himself ready to go Friday before the team left for its flight to California. "I'm feeling a lot better," Westbrook said. "I'm ready to go." Westbrook sat out one game and practiced last week before Philadelphia's game against Dallas, but ended up sitting out because of a headache. Reid said there should not be a similar problem this week. (AP)

FF Today's Take: It sounds like Westbrook will hit the field this week against San Diego. It's unclear how much of a workload he will have and the presence of LeSean McCoy gives the Eagles the option to split carries. Consider Westbrook a low-end number two back this week until he proves he's ready to assume a full Sunday workload.
Injury Westbrook Practices Thursday     -- Thu Nov 12 11:00 pm --

Eagles RB Batting Concussion/Ankle Injuries
Brian Westbrook, meanwhile, is back and working with the first team. The running back skipped yesterday's workout partly because of his ankle, partly because the team was working indoors. Apparently, the astroturf wasn't enough to keep Westbrook out of practice today. If he's going to play he'll need to get some work in, although he has gone a week without practicing and has played on Sunday before. (Philly.com)

FF Today's Take: Whether or not Westbrook practices Friday will go a long way into determining if he plays Sunday. It's likely his status won't be determined until gametime so check back for more reports during the weekend.
