2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
With his record-setting passing performance in 2011, Brees finished the season as the top ranked fantasy quarterback, averaging 29.5 FPts/G. He eclipsed Dan Marinoís single-season passing yardage record with 5,476 yards while throwing for a career-high 46 touchdowns. Better yet, he cut down on his interceptions, going from a career-high 22 in 2010 to just 14 last season. Things couldnít be looking rosier, right? Well, Bountygate has put a cloud over the Saints and Breesí outlook for the 2012 season with head coach Sean Payton suspended for the entire year. Paytonís absence has to have a negative impact on the teamís offensive production and letís face it; it is folly to chase last yearís fantasy production so predicting 5,500 passing yards and 45 touchdowns for Brees is foolhardy. Brees will remain a fantasy stud in 2012 but 5,000 yards and 35-40 touchdown passes seems far more realistic. After Aaron Rodgers, Brees deserves consideration as being the number two quarterback on your draft board along with Tom Brady, Matt Stafford and Cam Newton.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Drew Brees expected to play versus Colts     -- Thu Aug 21 11:50 am --

Should play about a half
The New Orleans Saints quarterback has looked sharp in practice this week -- especially on Wednesday night. Drew Brees threw a handful of nice touchdown passes during full-team red zone drills, including a hard strike right in receiver Robert Meachem's breadbasket. After practice, Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed the obvious -- that Brees is indeed "ready to go" for Saturday night's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Brees has been dealing with an oblique issue, missing the last couple weeks of practice. He's expected to play in the first half Saturday night. Brees is one of the top three fantasy quarterbacks along side Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.
Injury Drew Brees participates in practice     -- Wed Aug 13 7:07 pm --

First action since injuring oblique
The New Orleans Saints quarterback participated in some individual passing drills with the quarterbacks and receivers Wednesday for the first time since the injury. However, it still appears likely that the Saints will keep Brees out of Friday's preseason tussle with the Tennessee Titans. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Drew Brees is one player who does not need to play much in the preseason to be effective. Seeing him return to practice this week is a great sign that he will be ready prior to the start of the regular season. At this point, there is no reason to downgrade the Saints quarterback in your rankings.
