2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Hasselbeck was quietly efficient in his first year in Tennessee, remaining healthy for an entire season for the first time in four years and having his most productive year since the 2007 campaign. By season’s end, he had accumulated 3,571 passing yards to go along with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, good enough to finish the season as the 18th ranked fantasy quarterback. While that was reasonably impressive and he exceeded expectations, a closer look reveals that Hasselbeck’s play began to decline starting in Week 5. He threw for 1,152 yards, eight touchdowns and three picks in the first four weeks but just 2,419 yards, ten touchdowns and 11 interceptions over the final 12 weeks of the year. In 2012, Hasselbeck will need to hold off 2011 first-round pick Jake Locker, who was impressive in limited playing time as a rookie, in order to retain his hold on the starting quarterback job. In essence, drafting Hassselbeck as your fantasy backup is a major risk given the uncertainty as to whether he will beat out Locker and retain it for the entire season. Couple that with his lack of upside and it seems clear that Hasselbeck is waiver wire material in 2012, despite the potential explosiveness of the Titans offense.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Pagano wants Luck to "change" running style     -- Tue Nov 17 11:46 am --

Colts coach concerned about QB's long-term halth
Andrew Luck shouldn't be taking big hits, according to Chuck Pagano, who wants him to be more conservative in his running approach. "We're going to talk every day until he figures it out and we figure it out as a team," Pagano said. "He knows full well that he can't do that. He can't put himself and this team in jeopardy. You love the grit, and you love the toughness and all that stuff. But playing the position like a linebacker? You can't." (Indianapolis Star)

FF Today's Take: Luck (kidney) will miss about a month and will be tough to stash as your fantasy season gets into the playoff picture. We don;t recommend a drop, but there's no telling how effective he'll bee when he does return -- especially with Pagano in his head about his playing style. For now, Matt Hasselbeck is slated to be the starter in Week 11 and Charlie Whitehurst is the Colts new backup.
Injury Andrew Luck out 2-6 weeks, lacerated kidney     -- Tue Nov 10 3:05 am --

Partial tear of an abdominal muscle
Andrew Luck incurred abdominal injuries during Sunday’s victory over the Denver Broncos. “The injuries happened at the end of an early fourth quarter scramble,” said Head Coach Chuck Pagano. “Andrew was sore after the game and was feeling a little worse Monday afternoon so we sent him to get tests.” The tests revealed a laceration in one of Luck’s kidneys and a partial tear of an abdominal muscle. The injuries should not require surgery and full recovery from both is expected within two to six weeks. (

FF Today's Take: And the hits just keep on coming for the NFL. Matt Hasselbeck will be the Colts quarterback in Week 11 against the Falcons. Colts are on bye in Week 10. It's a minor downgrade for the Colts receivers but Hasselbeck is a viable QB2 and streaming option in the coming weeks.
Injury Colts: Andrew Luck practiced "without limitations"     -- Tue Oct 13 9:55 am --

Backup Matt Hasselbeck still fighting bacterial infection
Colts QB Andrew Luck participated on an unrestricted basis in Monday’s practice, according to team officials. Practice was not open to reporters, so everyone will have to take the Colts at their word. (Indianapolis Star)

FF Today's Take: The Colts need to hope for the best, as the plight of backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck continues. Hasselbeck practiced Monday but is still being treated for the bacterial infection that weakened him last week and nearly kept from playing last Thursday night. This is a situation to monitor heading into the weekend, as Luck's shoulder and Hasselbeck's health are both items of concern with the Patriots on the docket.
Injury Hasselbeck expected to start, Luck Questionable     -- Thu Oct 8 10:17 am --

Luck to test arm in pregame warmup

FF Today's Take: Luck sat out last week's game with a shoulder injury and it appears the Colts are leaning towards resting him this week as well. T.Y. Hilton posted a 7-67 line while Donte Moncrief went 6-75 with Hasselbeck at the controls last week.
Injury Luck has mild dislocation in right shoulder     -- Mon Oct 5 6:10 pm --

Report suggests doctors are concerned about labrum
Andrew Luck suffered a subluxation of his throwing shoulder. A source close to the situation says at least three out-of-state experts have looked at the injury and given their input. Luck had an MRI a week ago. The injury is also known as a partial separation of the shoulder. Doctors are concerned about Luck’s labrum, which is hard to read from the MRI with this type of injury. The biggest concerns about Luck at the moment are pain and arm strength. (Indy Sports Central)

FF Today's Take: With two games in five days, the Colts likely made an organizational decision to rest Luck this weekend in order to give him nearly three full weeks to recover. If the injury is "just" a subluxation, he could be in line for Week 5. If his labrum is the problem, it could be a much more long-term problem for the Colts and fantasy owners. Matt Hasselbeck needs to be owned in most leagues by the end of the week.
Injury Andrew Luck out for Week 4     -- Sun Oct 4 7:54 am --

Hasselbeck to start
Andrew Luck will not play today, per a team source. (Chris Mortensen on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Luck was "limited" in practice all week but in reality did very little on the field. Head coach Chuck Pagano's comments during the week stating he was confident Luck would play turned out to be gamesmanship nonsense. Matt Hasselbeck will get the start and the Colts receiving corps should be downgraded a notch.
Injury Andrew Luck limited in practice Friday     -- Fri Oct 2 12:05 pm --

Shoulder injury to Luck may give Hasselbeck the start
Via Mike Chappell of, Andrew Luck was not out with the other quarterbacks at the start of practice Friday. He was limited both Wednesday and Thursday with a shoulder injury. If he can’t go, the Colts would start veteran Matt Hasselbeck, who hasn’t started a game since Nov. 4, 2012. They signed journeyman Josh Johnson today since they were carrying only two on the active roster going into the week. (ProFootballTalk)

FF Today's Take: The signing of Johnson tells is the Colts are concerned about Luck's availability for Sunday against the Jaguars. He's officially listed as Questionable. If Luck doesn't play, it would be difficult for fantasy owners to trust Hasselbeck who hasn't played in a regular season game since 2012. The Colts passing game as would also be devalued but RB Frank Gore would get a slight boost.
