Antonio Bryant dealing with knee injury?-- Fri Aug 6 7:00 pm -- WR hasn't practiced since first day of training camp
Head coach Marvin Lewis insists Bryant’s left knee injury “didn’t factor in at all” with Terrell Owens’ signing, but it’s beginning to look more and more like the two are related. Bryant hasn’t practiced since the first practice of training camp as he rests and rehabs a left knee that endured two setbacks (meniscus tear and bone bruise) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.(Cincinnati Enquirer)
FF Today's Take:With the Terrell Owens acquisition, Antonio Bryant had probably already fallen off your draft radar, but if he hadn't, you can add a nagging injury to the list of factors going against him.
Cedric Benson won`t be suspended-- Fri Jul 30 8:30 pm -- For offseason bar fight arrest
The NFL won't punish Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson for his offseason arrest involving an alleged bar fight in Texas. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement Friday that he's satisfied Benson understands his responsibilities as a football player and a public figure. Benson met with Goodell and other league officials last week.(Cincinnati Bengals)
FF Today's Take:Benson was the key to Cincinnati`s offense last season, piling up 1251 rushing yards on 301 attempts in just 13 games. He may see a decrease in touches this season with a slightly more pass-oriented offense following the additions of Terrell Owens and Antonio Bryant.
T.O. quickly impressing in Cincinnati-- Fri Jul 30 8:00 pm -- WR puts speed on display in first practice with Bengals
For a guy who jumped off the plane and hit the field less than an hour after arriving at training camp, it was quite a debut. Terrell Owens' first practice as a Bengal on Thursday featured only one reception, but he showed a lot during the two-hour session that should have the offensive coaches and fans salivating going into the NFL season. The only pass he caught during 11-on-11 drills was on an inside crossing route for 15 yards, but he could have quickly turned it into a 40-yard gain. Even when the ball wasn't thrown to him, Owens showed what he could bring to the offense, blowing by two defensive backs on a deep route.
(Cincinnati Enquirer)
FF Today's Take:Say what you want about Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocino`s antics, but their talent as explosive, elusive receivers is unquestionable. If all the stars align this season, and that might be a lot to ask for, T.O. has 1000-yard, 10-TD upside.
Owens agrees to one-year deal with CIN-- Tue Jul 27 7:00 pm -- $2 million guaranteed, plus $2 million in incentives
Terrell Owens has agreed on a one-year, $2 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday. According to the source, the deal also includes another $2 million in incentives.
Owens spent last season with the Buffalo Bills. He caught 55 passes for 829 yards and hauled in five touchdowns as the Bills finished the season 6-10.
The St. Louis Rams dropped out of the bidding for Owens on Monday and a source told Schefter earlier Tuesday the New York Jets expressed interest in the 36-year old wide receiver. In Cincinnati, Owens will team with also-controversial wide receiver and close friend Chad Ochocinco as targets for Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer.
(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:This is probably the best spot for Owens and his fantasy value in 2010. There is still some health concerns surrounding Antonio Bryant, and his ailing knee but even if the knee isn't an issue you can expect him to lose a camp battle with Owens for starting spot opposite Chad Ochocinco.
Chargers not interested in T.O.-- Sun Jul 18 1:05 pm -- A.J. Smith: 'We're all set right now with our receivers'
The San Diego Chargers aren't optimistic about Vincent Jackson's future with them. But that doesn't mean they believe Terrell Owens is the solution to their potential wide receiver problem.
"We're all set right now with our receivers," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune on Saturday. "I don't want to be involved. A lot of people have us targeted (with T.O.), but they know I wouldn't do it."
It has been a difficult offseason for Owens, who has watched team after team deny interest in him.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Owens may have to play the waiting before finding a team for the 2010 season. For fantasy purposes, Owens remains a speculative choice with limited upside for deep leagues only.
T.O. wants to play for Patriots-- Wed Jul 14 5:15 pm -- Will take a LeBron-like pay cut for Pats, but refuses Chiefs
In an interview with 96.5 The Buzz in Kansas City, T.O. dismissed the idea of playing for the Chiefs. “Me and Todd Haley, we don’t get along,” Owens told the host. Owens made it clear to Boston’s WJMN Radio that the Patriots were a different story. “I’d definitely be open to that,” he said. “I mean, you’ve got (Tom) Brady there. You’ve got the great mind, coach (Bill) Belichick,” Owens said. “I’m like LeBron. I can go there and take less of a role, take less money and put everything aside and make it work.”(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:There's Terrell Owens' ego for you again - comparing himself to a 25-year-old two-time MVP. The 36-year-old remains on the job hunt but is apparently still picky enough to neglect teams like the Chiefs from his list of potential employers.
T.O. frustrated with lack of interest-- Wed Jul 7 11:00 pm -- Blames media outlets
Free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens suggested Wednesday that his perceived character issues are fueled by the media and the reason he has yet to sign with a team this offseason. Appearing on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone, Owens was asked if he was frustrated or surprised that he hasn't been signed by an NFL team.
"A little bit of both," he said. "People have listened to a lot of the commentaries throughout a lot of the media outlets, mainly ESPN, that has my character in question as far as things that have happened in the past," Owens told the radio station.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Beggars can't be choosers, and with just two months to go until the 2010 NFL season kicks off, Owens will likely be considering offers from any of the 32 NFL teams with interest, instead of only the "contenders" as he had initially planned.
Cutler doesn't think Bears need T.O.-- Wed Jun 16 3:25 pm -- Satisfied with receiving corps
Chicago Bears receivers should take solace in knowing quarterback Jay Cutler believes in them. Cutler made that clear by reiterating his stance Tuesday concerning the possibility of the club acquiring receiver Terrell Owens, who was spotted hanging out last month with the quarterback at Underground, a Chicago nightclub. "Good guy, but I'm still gonna stay where we are receiver-wise and say we're good," Cutler said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. Owens, 36, continues to search for a new team after catching 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns last season with the Buffalo Bills.(ESPN.com)
FF Today's Take:After a tumultuous 2009 campaign, Cutler has to prove his abilities as a quarterback to the entire city of Chicago, so a mouthy receiver probably wouldn't help. Cutler seemed to generate some chemistry with WR Devin Aromashodu at the end of last season. In the final two games, the two connected for 196 yards and 3 TDs.
