Brandon Coleman has eyes on No.3 WR role-- Tue Aug 18 12:33 pm --
Expected to see first half action against Pats
We've always known Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks would be the top two in the order. There's no longer any real argument which player sits No. 3: Brandon Coleman. Sure Coleman still receives reps with the second unit and below at times. But the most popular three wide receiver sets through camp involve the "Three Cs."(Times Picayune)
FF Today's Take:Coleman didn't get an offensive snap in the first half of the Saints first preseason game but is expected to see more action in Week 2 against the Patriots. Momentum is building for Coleman to win the No.3 role. He's battling Nick Toon but for now it appears Coleman's job to lose.
Nick Toon has good shot at the No. 3 role -- Tue Jul 7 9:00 am --
Expected to lineup in the "Z" position
Buried on the depth chart for three seasons, Nick Toon finds himself staring at a wide-open path to playing time, cleared by the offseason departures of Kenny Stills, Jimmy Graham and Robert Meacham. Toon seems to have a good shot at the No. 3 role behind Cooks and Marques Colston this fall, if he can hold off a hard-charging group of young players and free agents.(New Orleans Advocate)
FF Today's Take:Toon is set to play the "Z" position in the Saints base offense but is capable of lining up at "X". He'll do well to gain WR4 as the third or perhaps fourth option in the Saints offense behind Cooks, Colston and tight end Josh Hill. He's a late-round flier in redraft leagues.
Brandin Cooks shines at Saints minicamp-- Wed Jun 17 8:00 am --
"Cooks is the best player on offense"
The roster is brimming with talented young receivers. Brandin Cooks is the best player on offense - hands down. He has another gear. The third receiver job is Nick Toon's to lose. Word of advice: Draft C.J. Spiller on your fantasy football team. The Saints are going to get him the ball in a number of ways this season. If he can stay healthy, he could have a breakout year. It certainly won't be for lack of opportunity.(NOLA.com)
FF Today's Take:Note, these are beat writer Jeff Duncan's comments after the Saints first minicamp practice on Tuesday. The Saints will run the ball plenty with Mark Ingram but Cooks and Spiller could be heavily involved in the passing game. Spiller is going to be a player to target in PPR leagues.
