|Justin Blackmon suspended indefinitely -- Fri Nov 1 3:00 pm --|
|Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced Friday. Blackmon's latest suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the start of the 2014 season. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: Blackmon missed the first four games of this season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. With Blackmon out for the year, Mike Brown should fill the No.2 receiver role in the Jaguars offense and becomes a viable, low-end WR3 moving forward.
| Blackmon and Shorts both active -- Sun Oct 20 11:35 am --|
Shorts will play with injured shoulder
|Blackmon, Cecil Shorts good to go. (Ian Rappaport via Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: We expected Justin Blackmon to play but Shorts will be more of a gamble for fantasy owners. He had trouble sleeping this week due to the pain in his shoulder. He'll be a risky WR3 against the Chargers.
| Shorts, Blackmon Questionable -- Fri Oct 18 1:55 pm --|
Shorts wants to play
|Jaguars coach Gus Bradley listed receivers Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon, as well as strong safety Johnathan Cyprien, as questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego. Blackmon said there was no question he would be ready to play through his hamstring injury following Bradley's press conference. Shorts said his shoulder joint injury is still painful, but is planning on playing through it.
"I'm sure once the adrenaline kicks in, I'll play ball and deal with it," Shorts said. "It's something I have to fight through." (Florida Times Union)|
FF Today's Take: Blackmon has been expected to play but Shorts is more of a concern. The Jags and Chargers do kickoff at 1:00 PM ET so we'll get a better read on Shorts' status when the Inactives come out on Sunday morning.
| Blackmon returns to practice -- Thu Oct 17 4:25 pm --|
Shorts likely to be game-time decision
|Still sounding like Justin Blackmon will play. Cecil Shorts will be gametime decision. (John Oehser on Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: Blackmon is dealing with a hamstring injury or soreness, but that is not entirely unexpected for a player who has been asked to do so much so quickly following a four-game suspension. Shorts is having trouble raising his arm above his shoulder and complained that he has been unable to sleep because of the pain from his SC joint injury, so he's very unlikely to go. Desperate owners can look to Mike Brown, although there are most likely better options available in most leagues.
| Shorts, Blackmon sit Wednesday -- Wed Oct 16 3:30 pm --|
Jaguars' receivers miss practice
|WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder joint). Hurt on third play of Denver game. WR Justin Blackmon (hamstring/groin). Played through it against Denver. Both did not practice Wednesday. (Florida Times-Union)|
FF Today's Take: Blackmon is expected to play this week but Shorts (shoulder) is a bigger question mark. If Shorts sits, Mike Brown would get the start.
| Shorts leaves with arm in sling -- Sun Oct 13 5:10 pm --|
Sprained right shoulder
|Cecil Shorts sustained a sprained right shoulder while trying to make a catch. He left the locker room with his arm in a sling. Coach Gus Bradley said Shorts will be evaluated Monday.
FF Today's Take: Shorts' early exit paved the way for Justin Blackmon to catch 14 passes for 190 yards against the Broncos. There is some concern that Shorts may have fractured a rib.
| Shorts sits Thursday, groin injury -- Thu Oct 10 1:30 pm --|
Expected to play
|Receiver Cecil Shorts missed practice Thursday with a groin injury, but is expected to be ready for the Broncos.
If Mike Brown and Shorts could play, the Jaguars would have the rotation they envisioned in training camp for the first time this season. Shorts would start alongside Justin Blackmon, with Brown and Ace Sanders operating mostly in the slot. (Florida Times Union)|
FF Today's Take: Missing a Thursday practice is a concern but it sounds like Shorts will play on Sunday. Owners will want to follow his practice status tomorrow and check Inactives on Sunday before putting Shorts in their lineup.
