| Cecil Shorts aggravates hamstring injury -- Mon Sep 29 7:00 am --|
MRI scheduled for Monday
|Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts’ star-crossed season continued when he sustained a left hamstring injury in the third quarter and left the game. "I felt a pull,” Shorts said. "It actually happened on the play before [the interception] when I was getting off the line. I beat [the defender] and was running when he grabbed me and I felt something pull." (Florida Times-Union)|
FF Today's Take: Shorts will have an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. If and when he's cleared to play, the amount of injuries he's suffered through this season makes him unreliable for fantasy owners. Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson will likely be the leading receivers for Jacksonville in Week 5.

Takes all reps with first team offense in practice
|Befitting his status as the new starter, Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles took nearly all of the first-team reps during practice today. Bortles said his mindset is a “little different” from Weeks 1-3, when he studied the game plan but got scout-team snaps to this week, where he is studying the game plan in the morning and at night and running it in the afternoon. (Florida Times Union)|
FF Today's Take: This is great news because Chad Henne was barely completing half of his passes this year. Blake Bortles came on strong at the end of training camp and now gets a chance to revitalize an offense ranked 25th in passing yards per game after three weeks. He will make mistakes and remains a QB2 for now, but has the ability to allow receivers Cecil Shorts and Allen Robinson to become productive fantasy assets in deeper formats.

Hamstring injury may cause Shorts to miss more than Week 2

FF Today's Take: Head coach Gus Bradley said yesterday "It’s not exactly good that he didn’t practice today, but we’ll see what happens." Shorts has been dealing with hamstring issues since early in the preseason. Fantasy owners need to be making plans to be without the receiver for the foreseeable future.

Rookie receivers get big opportunity on Sunday
|The Jaguars have declared wide receiver Cecil Shorts out of the season opener at Philadelphia with a hamstring injury and he won’t make the trip for the game.
The other three players not making the trip are running back Storm Johnson, offensive tackle Austin Pasztor and tight end Clay Harbor. (Florida Times Union)|
FF Today's Take: Shorts had been bothered by a hamstring injury during training camp and it flared up again on Thursday. He was limited in practice Friday. With Shorts out, Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson (all rookies) will be the top targets for Chad Henne. Lee and Hurns offers the most fantasy appeal but both are desperation plays.

Misses practice Friday
|Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts participated in this morning’s walk-through but is not practicing because of hamstring tightness that forced him to leave Thursday’s practice early.
Shorts was not present during the first 30 minutes of today’s workout.
It is expected that Shorts will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s opener at Philadelphia. (Florida Times Union)|
FF Today's Take: Shorts was unable to finish practice yesterday so it's looking more an more like he won't be available against the Bears this week. Expect him to be a gametime decision. If he can't go, Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson Allen Hurns and Mike Brown will be the top receivers for Chad Henne.
| Shorts feels "rusty" in return to practice -- Sun Aug 17 1:36 pm --|
First real practice since April
|Jaguars standout receiver Cecil Shorts used the same word four times to describe his first practice in over three weeks.
"It felt good to be back out there with the guys," Shorts said. "I'm definitely rusty. So, I've got to continue to work and to not get frustrated. I understand this is really my first practice since April." (Florida Times-Union)|
FF Today's Take: Shorts has missed a good chunk of the preseason with hamstring issues but hopes to be ready for Week 1. He'll be monitored closely and any setback over the next couple weeks will certainly cause his ADP to plunge even further. His injury risk has caused him to drop into the 11th-round (WR52) in standard scoring 12-team leagues.
