Here’s a little secret. Hankerson is the Redskins receiver who makes the most sense taking your fantasy draft this summer and here is why. Some owner is going to overpay for Pierre Garcon’s upside. Another owner is going to overpay for Santana Moss’ past production given the reports that he was rejuvenated in this spring’s OTA’s. Another owner might think Josh Morgan is worth taking a late round flier on. And in the latter stages of your draft, Hankerson is going to be sitting there with most owners looking at his subpar rookie numbers of 13 receptions for 163 yards and no touchdowns and move to another player on their cheatsheet, leaving Hankerson for you. And you’re going to take him. He was productive at Miami, has solid size at 6’2” and 209 pounds to go along with excellent speed. In two starts in his rookie season, he caught 12 of 14 targets for 140 yards, including an eight-reception, 106-yard performance against Miami in which he suffered a season-ending hip injury. Monitor his pre-season progress but at this point, he ranks as a late-round flier in most leagues and waiver wire material in leagues with small rosters. He is a solid option in dynasty leagues.

Injury Roddy White to have minor elbow surgery     -- Sun Aug 23 8:00 pm --

Expected to be ready for Week 1
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White will have minor surgery on his right elbow Monday but will not miss the Sept. 14 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, coach Dan Quinn said Sunday. "He'll certainly be back for Week 1," Quinn said. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: White missed Friday's preseason game as the injury flared up on him Thursday. This will mean more reps for Leonard Hankerson while White recovers and should push White's ADP (8.09) down in re-draft leagues. White missed two games last year (hamstring, ankle) and had his knee drained back in June. At 33-years old, he's injury risk is something fantasy owners should be aware of.
Hankerson, Tamme among early standouts     -- Mon Aug 3 9:20 pm --

WR, TE turning heads in Atlanta
Two acquisitions that look especially good right now are WR Leonard Hankerson and TE Jacob Tamme. Hankerson has been the best wide receiver at Flowery Branch thus far. “I think it’s the length, he’s got such a big catching radius,” new HC Dan Quinn said. “He’s got such a knack for keeping it in bounds and going to stretch for the ball.” Quinn likes what he’s seen from Tamme, as well. The veteran TE impressed with numerous catches in high-traffic areas. "We're just trying to find ways to feature (Tamme). He's got a unique style of how to get open, where to go find it. I think there's a good rhythm with him with that," Quinn said. (

FF Today's Take: Roddy White has been limited with a knee ailment, but Atlanta has been consistent in hyping Hankerson this offseason. It should also be noted that Hankerson played for the Redskins when offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan held the same job in Washington. Tamme is shaping up as a potential high-upside TE2. Not only has Shanahan been able to get tight ends to produce in his offense, but the Falcons would like for one to emerge to diversify the offense like Tony Gonzalez did before his retirement.
Falcons pleased with Hankerson     -- Thu Jul 23 6:10 pm --

WR played under new OC Kyle Shanahan in Washington
Opposite Julio Jones, the coaches really like newcomer Leonard Hankerson based on his strong offseason. Hankerson played in Shanahan's system while in Washington and appears to be healthy coming off a gruesome left knee injury in 2013. But Hankerson's emergence doesn't necessarily move Roddy White aside. It simply means the veteran White has to have a strong training camp and show the left knee injury that has plagued him won't be a lingering issue. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: It sounds as though the beat writer believes White and Hankerson could end up battling for a starting spot opposite Jones. In all likelihood, however, Hankerson will probably end up being White's handcuff that could get some run if the 33-year-old's body continues to break down like it has in the lat two years. It's likely much ado about nothing, but a note to file away should White struggle out of the gate in 2015.
