Injury Kaepernick placed on IR, shoulder surgery     -- Sat Nov 21 2:30 pm --

Torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder
Colin Kaepernick’s season, and quite possibly his 49ers tenure, is over as he needs surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder, a league source said Saturday. The 49ers placed Kaepernick on injured reserve and promoted rookie Dylan Thompson from the practice squad, ahead of Sunday’s game at the Seattle Seahawks. (San Jose Mercury News)

FF Today's Take: The 49ers quarterback will likely need 4-6 months of recovery time and can be dropped from an re-draft league roster. Blaine Gabbert will be the starter moving forward. Kaeperick's $11.9 million 2016 salary becomes guaranteed if he's on the roster April 1.
Injury Carlos Hyde ruled out Sunday     -- Fri Nov 6 9:50 pm --

RB is recovering from stress fracture in his foot
San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced. Hyde has been dealing with a stress fracture in his left foot and did not practice all week. He missed last weekend's 27-6 loss against the St. Louis Rams. The second-year pro out of Ohio State ranks 15th in the NFL in rushing yards this season, with 470. (SI)

FF Today's Take: With Hyde ruled out, Reggie Bush injured, and Colin Kaepernick relegated to a backup role, there are no 49ers' offensive players worth starting this week. Who receives the most touches out of San Francisco's backfield this week is anybody's guess, but it'll probably be a mix of Kendall Gaskins, Shaun Draughn, and possibly even Jarryd Hayne.
Injury Kaepernick not pleased with demotion     -- Fri Nov 6 9:30 pm --

Gabbert set to start for 49ers
Speaking publicly for the first time since being benched by the San Francisco 49ers, a somewhat defiant Colin Kaepernick did not agree with the team's decision to go with Blaine Gabbert as its starter, but the fifth-year quarterback said he was not going to complain. Kaepernick did, however, take issue with some of the ways he has been characterized by coach Jim Tomsula and offensive coordinator Geep Chryst. When asked if he agreed with Tomsula's assessment that Kaepernick needed to "step back and breathe," Kaepernick said, "I'm not out of breath, so I don't understand that reference." "I don't believe in pressure," he said. "Pressure is not being prepared for what you want to do. To me, I've played full seasons and had success. Mentally, I've been through it before. I'm not incapable of going through this." (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Kaepernick can disagree with the demotion all he wants - the fact is that he just wasn't getting it done. That said, Blaine Gabbert is unlikely to be an improvement. Steer clear of all 49ers players this week for fantasy purposes.
Colin Kaepernick benched for Blaine Gabbert     -- Tue Nov 3 9:00 am --

Niners make QB switch in wake of turmoil
Bay Area Sports Guy is reporting that after falling to a record of 2-6 and bearing witness to several poor quarterbacking performances, the 49ers have decided to bench Colin Kaepernick in favor of backup Blaine Gabbert, according to a team source. (Bay Area Sports Guy)

FF Today's Take: The source first said that a big change was coming for the 49ers on Tuesday, and followed up later with confirmation that the change is going to be at the quarterback position. Gabbert will be starting for the 49ers against the Falcons on Sunday, the source said. At this point, it makes no sense to consider Gabbert for fantasy purposes, and Kaepernick can be safely dropped in redraft leagues.
Kaepernick will retain starting job for 49ers     -- Fri Oct 23 6:05 pm --

HC: "Colin's our quarterback"
After Thursday night's dismal performance versus the Seahawks, coach Jim Tomsula declared that the 49ers' performance was "not acceptable." With a night to sleep on it, Tomsula is not prepared to make any drastic changes, such as benching quarterback Colin Kaepernick or altering the offensive coaching staff. "Colin's our quarterback," Tomsula said Friday, via the Sacramento Bee. "No controversy." Kaepenrick continues to struggle not only with rudimentary passing elements such as accuracy, anticipation and touch, but also with protections, field vision and decision making. (

FF Today's Take: Kaepernick has been an all-or-nothing fantasy quarterback this season, putting together an impressive performance one week and a dud the next. He's not worth owning unless you're in a 2QB league, and even then is only worth starting when he has a favorable matchup.
Injury Vernon Davis ruled out Sunday     -- Fri Oct 9 7:30 pm --

49ers' TE to miss second straight game
San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, despite practicing in a limited fashion all week long with a knee injury, has been ruled out of Sunday night's game at the New York Giants. Davis, in his 10th NFL season, sat out last week's game against the Green Bay Packers after suffering the injury the previous week at the Arizona Cardinals. He missed two games last season and one in 2013 but before then he had not missed a game since 2007. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Davis, like virtually every player on the 49ers' anemic offense, hasn't been a fantasy factor this year. With QB Colin Kaepernick struggling mightily of late, Davis is not even worth a bench spot at this point.
Injury Vernon Davis sustained knee injury in Week 3     -- Mon Sep 28 4:40 pm --

Does not appear to be long-term issue
Vernon Davis suffered a knee injury in the second half and left the game. He said it was not a long-term issue. Davis was targeted twice but finished without a catch. (Sacramento Bee)

FF Today's Take: Davis was the target on the first of Colin Kaepernick's two pick-sixes as well as another interception that was overturned later in the game. Both throws were symbolic of the terrible throws Kaepernick made all game long. Davis is a high-end TE2 that could make for a serviceable bye-week replacement for owners of Rob Gronkowski or Delanie Walker next week versus Green Bay if he is able to suit up.
