2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Considered a bit of a reach when the Vikings selected him with the 12th pick in the 2011 draft, Ponder showcased some potential after replacing Donovan McNabb in the starting lineup in Week 7 but clearly needs to work on his pocket presence and following his progressions. While he is unlikely to ever become an elite NFL quarterback, Ponder displayed some play-making ability last season both as a runner and in the passing game, despite the teamís obvious deficiencies at wide receiver. Unfortunately for Ponder, the team did little to upgrade its receiving corps for the 2012 season and running back Adrian Peterson is unlikely to be back at 100% after suffering an ACL injury late last season. When Peterson was out of the lineup, defenses clamped down on Ponder and that does not bode well for his fantasy prospects early in 2012. Given the Vikings investment in him, Ponder should be considered a safe, lower-tier option as your fantasy backup and a player with solid, but not great, prospects in dynasty leagues.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Bridgewater to sit, Ponder to start Thursday     -- Thu Oct 2 5:55 pm --

Ankle injury sidelines rookie
Christian Ponder will get the start for the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night when they take on the Green Bay Packers. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be inactive, according to a source informed of the situation. Bridgewater was incredibly impressive in his first start last week, completing 19-of-30 passing for 317 yards. He added 27 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. The first-round pick played a turnover-free game and pushed the ball downfield before going out with an ankle injury. (

FF Today's Take: The Vikings - on their third different starting quarterback entering Week 5 - are without their two most established offensive players (Adrian Peterson and Kyle Rudolph). Cordarrelle Patterson has been virtually invisible since Week 1, so Ponder is going to have his work cut for him versus the Packers. Expect Minnesota to ride Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon as long as possible in Week 5, hoping that Bridgewater is ready to return against Detroit next week.
Injury Bridgewater doesn't practice Tuesday     -- Tue Sep 30 3:25 pm --

Vikings hope to have rookie QB for Wednesday jog-through
Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) was held out of Tuesday's practice. The "hope" is that he'll be ready for Wednesday's walk-through, but Bridgewater himself has made it clear that he's no sure thing for Thursday's game against the Packers. The short week couldn't be coming at a worse time for the Vikes, who could be forced to turn to Christian Ponder in an important divisional tilt. (Rotoworld via Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Ponder doesn't offer much fantasy value, and a less-than-100 percent Bridgewater doesn't excite us that much, either. We'd recommend steering clear of the Vikings WRs on Thursday unless Bridgewater looks healthy and ready to go.
