A lot of pundits pegged Ford to emerge as the Raiders leading threat at wide receiver in his second year in the league but a hamstring injury and a sprained foot effectively derailed his season. After catching 25 passes for 470 yards and a pair of touchdowns as a rookie, the 5’9”, 185-pound former Clemson product, had just 19 receptions for 279 yards and a single score in 2011. With Darrius Heyward-Bey having established himself as the team’s leading wide receiver last season and the Raiders high on Denarius Moore’s prospects, look for Ford, who possesses outstanding speed, to get the majority of his playing time out of the slot in 2012. With no receiving threat at tight end, Ford could end up getting a fair number of targets in the short passing game provided he has improved on his route running ability. Ford is worth taking a flyer on in larger leagues.

Jacoby Ford progressing toward return -- Fri Mar 8 10:20 pm --
Speedy WR missed entire 2012 campaign | It might not seem like much, but Raiders receiver Jacoby Ford put on cleats last week for the first time since August. "I was extremely excited," Ford said. "Extremely." Ford missed all of last season when a sprained foot turned out to be a much more serious Lisfranc injury and he needed surgery in September. The same injury caused the fourth-year receiver to miss eight games in 2011. Ford is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and will "definitely" be back for training camp, he said. "It's not quite 100 percent, but it's coming along really well," Ford said. "I am back to running routes and feel pretty good about my straight-ahead full speed. And I have been cutting on it." (San Francisco Chronicle)
FF Today's Take: Speed kills and Ford definitely has the wheels to burn defenders down the field, but he's been injury prone and inconsistent over his brief career. To make matters worse, the Raiders' quarterback situation is a bit of a mess right now. Steer clear of Ford in 2013 until he shows he is healthy and ready to contribute.
