|After a somewhat disappointing injury-plagued regular season in which he caught 76 passes for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns, Nicks showed the league just how talented he was in the postseason by catching 28 passes for 444 yards and four touchdowns in the Giants four game march to the Super Bowl. Then this offseason, he once again reminded us of how brittle he can be by breaking his right foot at an OTA in late May. Therein lies the conundrum with Nicks. He is wonderfully talented and has the potential to be one of the most productive receivers in the league given his status in New York’s pass-heavy offensive attack. With Nicks battling injuries for much of last year, Victor Cruz emerged as a big play threat opposite him but heading into 2012, the Giants lack a proven third wide receiver and at tight end. That should mean plenty of targets for Cruz as well as Nicks, provided he is healthy to open the season. Recent reports indicate that he will be back on the field three weeks prior to opening day. Nicks should be drafted as a high end WR2 in 2012 but one who could be producing like a top five fantasy wide receiver by midyear.
Comment: The Giants are planning on Nicks (foot) missing 12 weeks keeping him out until mid-August. Assuming he recovers fully, Nicks' fantasy value will slide during his rehab making him a nice value pick as a WR2.
|Colts close to deal with WR Duron Carter -- Tue Jan 27 9:00 pm --|
Cris' son getting his chance in the NFL
|Wide receiver Duron Carter is closing in on an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Carter, the son of Hall of Famer and current ESPN analyst Cris Carter, played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League last season. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: Carter (6-5, 210 pounds) spent the last two seasons in the CFL after going undrafted in 2013 largely due to off-field concerns. The Colts may have two spots open at wide receiver if they don't re-sign Hakeem Nicks (who was on a one-year deal) and if veteran Reggie Wayne decides to retire.
| T.Y. Hilton misses practice Friday, Questionable -- Fri Dec 19 12:45 pm --|
|The Indianapolis Colts took to the practice field on Friday minus their top receiver.
T.Y. Hilton missed his third straight practice with the hamstring injury he sustained in Sunday's win over the Houston Texans, per ESPN.com's Mike Wells. He was later listed as questionable for Sunday's critical matchup with the Cowboys.
FF Today's Take: Hilton described himself as "50-50". With the Colts unlikely to improve their playoff seed in the final two weeks, its likely that Hilton will be on the Inactive list Sunday resulting in increased reps for Donte Moncrief and Hakeem Nicks at the wideout spots.
