After a somewhat disappointing injury-plagued regular season in which he caught 76 passes for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns, Nicks showed the league just how talented he was in the postseason by catching 28 passes for 444 yards and four touchdowns in the Giants four game march to the Super Bowl. Then this offseason, he once again reminded us of how brittle he can be by breaking his right foot at an OTA in late May. Therein lies the conundrum with Nicks. He is wonderfully talented and has the potential to be one of the most productive receivers in the league given his status in New York’s pass-heavy offensive attack. With Nicks battling injuries for much of last year, Victor Cruz emerged as a big play threat opposite him but heading into 2012, the Giants lack a proven third wide receiver and at tight end. That should mean plenty of targets for Cruz as well as Nicks, provided he is healthy to open the season. Recent reports indicate that he will be back on the field three weeks prior to opening day. Nicks should be drafted as a high end WR2 in 2012 but one who could be producing like a top five fantasy wide receiver by midyear.
Comment: The Giants are planning on Nicks (foot) missing 12 weeks keeping him out until mid-August. Assuming he recovers fully, Nicks' fantasy value will slide during his rehab making him a nice value pick as a WR2.

Giants OC: Randle will play a lot -- Thu Jun 13 6:50 pm --
Second-year WR benefiting from absences of Cruz, Nicks | The biggest story of the Giants' offseason program was the absence of wide receivers Hakeem Nicks (from voluntary OTAs) and Victor Cruz (from OTAs and this week's minicamp). But the player OC Kevin Gilbride gushed about following the team's brief walkthrough Thursday morning was Rueben Randle.
"[Over the past month] he looked like a guy that's been here for five or six years. He really benefited from the opportunity," Gilbride said. "Oh, he's gonna play. He's gonna play a lot. He'll play first, second down, he'll be an outside receiver for us - whether he's at the X or the Z, he's gonna play. " (ESPN New York)
FF Today's Take: Gilbride could easily be heaping the praise on Randle to push Cruz to sign his deal, but the second-year wideout is a first-round talent that was dogged by questions about his work ethic - which doesn't seem to be the case now. A properly-motivated Randle could make the Giants' offense pretty dynamic. Given his skill set, Randle is a player that needs to be monitored during training camp as a potential top 40-50 fantasy WR.

Giants get one of two starting receivers back on the field | Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is back with the New York Giants for the first day of mandatory minicamp. The team's top wideout had not participated in the team's voluntary OTAs the past several weeks to the surprise of his coach Tom Coughlin. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Nicks could've been fined if he didn't report mandatory minicamp today. It's likely he skipped the voluntary workouts to ensure he wouldn't injure himself. Nicks injured his foot last pre-season and was never fully recovered.

Giants missing top two wideouts | Giants wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are not present at OTAs. Nicks' absence remains a mystery. Nobody knows if it's a contract or personal issue. Cruz and the Giants remained locked in a contract battle. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Nicks and his agent aren't talking which leaves the Giants in the dark as to why he hasn't reported. Cruz is believed to be seeking $8 million per year ($2 million more than Wes Welker) with no resolution on the horizon.
