2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Let’s sum up Moreno’s 2011 season: he lost his job to veteran retread Willis McGahee, he tore his ACL in Week 10 and then he was busted for DUI. After three seasons in the league, Moreno has done little to warrant having been taken with the 12th pick in the 2009 draft and his current situation indicates that he is unlikely to get an opportunity to change that assessment in 2012. Moreno will enter training camp in a battle to retain a roster spot, not fighting for a starting position or even significant playing time. Willis McGahee seems entrenched as the team’s starter and rookie 3rd round pick Ronnie Hillman will likely assume a pass catching role, leaving Moreno fighting with Lance Ball for scraps. Moreno has no fantasy value in Denver but a preseason trade is a possibility and Moreno was productive enough in 2009 and 2010 to suggest that he could be a solid fantasy option with a new team.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Moreno finally getting healthy     -- Thu Aug 14 4:45 pm --

HC says RB "starting to look like kind of his old self"
Dolphins HC Joe Philbin said RB Knowshon Moreno, back from knee surgery, “is starting to look like kind of his old self” in the running game but stopped short of saying he would play Saturday in Tampa. “I don’t know about the passing game quite yet…. He’s looking better.” (Miami Herald)

FF Today's Take: Moreno missed the bulk of offseason work due to a knee injury (and subsequent scope) and may not have enough time to make up the gap on Lamar Miller. Fortunately for the ex-Bronco, he is a plus-option as a blocker and receiver in the passing game. Miami also figures to run the ball significantly more than it did last season, so if Moreno can make it back and stay healthy, he has a shot at RB4 value in most leagues.
Injury Knowshon Moreno taken off PUP list     -- Wed Aug 6 8:38 am --

Will practice today
Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list Wednesday and placed on the active roster. Moreno, the free agent acquisition from Denver, had been sidelined since having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in June. It’s unclear if Moreno would play in Friday’s game at Atlanta, however. (Sun Sentinel)

FF Today's Take: Moreno's knee procedure occurred in June so he's behind the curve in winning the starting running back job in Miami. Lamar Miller has been running with the first team and should continue to do so until Moreno proves he's healthy. The next couple weeks of camp will go a long way into determining the roles of the top two Miami running backs.
Injury Knowshon Moreno remains on PUP list     -- Fri Aug 1 10:00 pm --

Still recovering from knee surgery
With barely a month left until the regular-season opener, the Dolphins’ most accomplished running back sometimes still labors to walk, let alone run. In late June, Knowshon Moreno underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left knee. The original prognosis was he would miss four to five weeks. We’re now well into the sixth week of the rehab, and yet he remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list. (Miami Herald)

FF Today's Take: Moreno's fantasy stock will take a tumble over the next week while Lamar Miller's will rise. Miller has been running with the first team offense in Moreno's absence. Fantasy owners shouldn't simply write off Moreno as he can be a fantasy asset in Miami's new offense but expecting him to be the starter Week 1 appears to be more unlikely by the minute.
Injury Gibson, Moreno nearing "full throttle" status     -- Thu Jul 24 3:30 pm --

Veteran WR, RB coming off surgeries
HC Joe Philbin (suggests Miami has) no major injury worries regarding WR Brandon Gibson or RB Knowshon Moreno. "Not full throttle 100% reps yet but won't be too long." (Armando Salguero on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Gibson is recovering from a torn patellar tendon, so he should be considered more week-to-week. The ex-Ram built solid chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill before going down, but could easily lose third-receiver duties to rookie Jarvis Landry if he struggles in camp. Moreno was given a 4-5 week timeline for an offseason knee scope and appears to be a ways behind Lamar Miller atop the depth chart. Moreno is shaping up to be an unexciting fantasy RB4 this season.
Injury Moreno to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery     -- Mon Jun 23 9:35 pm --

Expected to miss 4-5 weeks
RB Knowshon Moreno will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week and miss 4-5 weeks. The Dolphins hope to have Moreno back in time for the start of the preseason. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: At least now we finally have a reason as to why Moreno was a little heavy for offseason workouts - his knee was never truly healthy. Lamar Miller was running with the first team for most of OTAs, but at least Moreno has a realistic shot at fighting for the starting spot with the 4-5 week timetable. Assuming Moreno is healthy in time for camp, there's a good chance he'll be part of a committee attack with Miller this season.
Injury Knowhson Moreno may need knee surgery     -- Fri Jun 20 8:58 am --

Moreno's knee injury "bad" according to source
Talked to a source who has seen Knowshon Moreno's knee. Said it's "bad." Prob will play, but the issue is how long. (Jason Cole via Twitter)

FF Today's Take: There still isn't any concrete word from the Dolphins but various reports suggest that Moreno's left knee is the issue and he may visit with a doctor next week. Moreno signed a one-year deal during the off-season. Lamar Miller ran with the first team during mini-camp this week.
Moreno does very little during mini-camp     -- Thu Jun 19 5:00 pm --

Dolphins mini-camp complete
The Dolphins offseason acquisition at running back has been a no show for the first two days of mini-camp as the Post’s Hal Habib explains in today’s Post. While Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee and Orleans Darkwa are getting carries, Knowshon Moreno is mostly hanging out on the sidelines and being timed while he runs. Philbin is downplaying it, saying Moreno is fine and the team is happy with him. But he hasn’t given a good explanation as to why Moreno isn’t getting carries like the rest of the backs. (Palm Beach Post)

FF Today's Take: There's been speculation that Moreno is dealing with some sort of injury but the Dolphins aren't commenting. For now, Lamar Miller is running with the first team. Moreno's fantasy value is on hold until more is known about his condition.
Mike Wallace in "better spirits" this season     -- Mon Jun 2 5:40 pm --

Knowshon Moreno running behind Lamar Miller in camp
Mike Wallace is in clearly better spirits this year. One reason is that he loves Bill Lazor’s offense and the flexibility it gives him to change where he lines up. Mike Sherman wouldn’t permit him to do that last year, and Wallace said today that as a result, opposing defenses knew exactly where he was going to be. Knowshon Moreno continues to work primarily with the second team, with Lamar Miller taking a lot of first team snaps. Moreno dropped a pass today and Joe Philbin conceded that his conditioning could be better. (Miami Herald)

FF Today's Take: Wallace languished last season under Sherman, who refused to move him across the formation and used him mostly as a glorified clear-out receiver. It appears as if Lazor wants to use the ex-Steeler in the same way the Eagles used DeSean Jackson in 2013. As for Moreno, Miller is a superior talent, so the free-agent signee cannot afford a negative first impression - especially considering he is on a one-year deal.
