Outlook: Stafford is coming off a decent rookie season in which he started ten games and threw for 2,267 yards with 13 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. His completion percentage was a disappointing 53.3%, but in his defense, the performance of the Lions wide receivers in 2009 was simply atrocious. Calvin Johnson missed two games and most of another with a knee injury, Bryant Johnson was a complete bust, and Derrick Williams did nothing as a rookie. With no threat opposite Johnson, he was double-teamed on almost every play, and the team’s other receivers failed to take advantage of that. Even when they did get open, too often they dropped catchable passes. The fantasy world seems focused on Jets sophomore quarterback Mark Sanchez, but Stafford figures to produce more fantasy points in 2010. Consider him a low-end fantasy backup with upside if Johnson avoids the injury bug and Burleson can take advantage of single coverage.
Scheffler off to good start-- Tue Jul 6 6:00 pm -- Lions new TE "in sync" with Stafford
Tony Scheffler looked very much in sync with quarterback Matthew Stafford in minicamp as the two hooked up for passes that led to big gains.
"I'm starting to get a little bit of chemistry with Matthew, and I love being in this offense. It's fun," Scheffler said. "There's a lot of chances for guys to get favorable matchups and kind of put the onus on you to step up and make plays."(Detroit Free Press)
FF Today's Take:To much of the fantasy world, Scheffler appears to be only a pass-catching backup to Brandon Pettigrew who will only play if the second-year TE is slow to recover from his ACL injury. However, Detroit has made it known that it wants to use him in a Dallas Clark-like fashion, so make sure to remember his name at the end of drafts because there is potential for low-end TE1 production here.
