Julius Thomas likely to undergo finger surgery
Jags hopeful he can return by Week 4
By: Doug Orth | Aug 31 2015, 6:45 pm

Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is considering having surgery on his finger, a procedure that would sideline the two-time Pro Bowler for at least four weeks. GM David Caldwell confirmed Monday that Thomas, the team's top free-agent acquisition this past offseason, will receive a second medical opinion Tuesday before deciding whether to undergo the surgery. A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Thomas is expected to undergo the surgery. Thomas was injured in Jacksonville's preseason opener earlier this month, but the Jaguars expected him to be ready for their regular-season opener. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: It took Thomas exactly one quarter of one game into his new contract to live up to his injury-prone tag. Florida Times-Union beat writer Ryan O'Halloran tweeted that a "realistic" return date would be Week 4 against the Colts. In the meantime, owners should expect a plethora of targets for Allen Robinson, a few more for Allen Hurns as well as a fair amount of snaps for Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor.
