| Ray Rice had discussions about playing for Browns Mike Pettine confirms team considering adding veteran RB to mix By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Aug 12 2015, 11:53 am
| Browns coach Mike Pettine acknowledged to SI.com Tuesday that the club has discussed signing Ray Rice, who has been out of the league since being released by Baltimore last September, the day the infamous elevator surveillance camera footage of his attack on his then fiancee surfaced. (SI.com)
FFToday's Take: Pettine said the team has "talked about it," but added that "I don’t think we’re there at this point,” which means this is far from a done deal.
Rice makes sense for a team that's nearing its breaking point with Terrance West and has ties to Rice's time in Baltimore via Browns running backs coach Wilbert [Montgomery, who was with Rice when he was rookie in 2008.
It could be a great landing spot for Rice, who flourished under the tutelage Under Montgomery, earning three Pro Bowl berths and topping more than 1,100 rushing yards and 1,600 yards from scrimmage in four consecutive seasons (2009-12).
