Stevie Johnson expected to play inside and outside Chargers' new WR likely to steal snaps from Malcom Floyd By: Doug Orth | Jul 20 2015, 4:15 pm
San Diego believes a change of scenery with Philip Rivers under center will bring out the best in Steve Johnson, who made a name for himself during his first six years in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. Watch for the Chargers to use him in a variety of ways, including outside and in the slot.
Rivers on Johnson: “(He) looks good. He really came in and committed himself to learning (the system). You can just tell when he got here (he thought) ‘I’ve got to dive in get this figured out because we play at a fast pace. We play a lot of no huddle.’ So I’ve got nothing but positives to say about him so far.” (chargers.com)
FFToday's Take:Johnson appears to be one of the more obvious late-round value picks in fantasy drafts. The ex-Bill is coming off two poor seasons, following up an injury-plagued final campaign in Buffalo in 2013 with a wasted season in San Francisco playing behind Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree. Rivers represents a huge upgrade from what Johnson is used to at quarterback and Antonio Gates' season-opening four-game suspension gives him a window to start off fast.
