Chiefs use franchise tag on LB Justin Houston Would make roughly $13 million By: Mike Krueger | Mar 2 2015, 10:05 am
As expected, the Chiefs franchise-tagged star outside linebacker Justin Houston on Monday, a league source confirmed to The Star.
The source said Houston is not expected to sign the franchise tag at the moment, though it is unclear when he will do so. The two sides still have until July 15 to work out a new deal with Houston. Otherwise, Houston would have to play the 2015 season under the tag to earn an accrued year and take another step toward unrestricted free agency in 2017. (Kansas City Star)
FFToday's Take:Houston may opt to not sign the tag and skip a portion of training camp as he clamors for a long-term deal. Houston led the league in sacks last season with 24 and would make around $13 million if he plays the 2015 season under the tag.
