Woodhead out for the season
Needs surgery on fractured fibula
By: Doug Orth | Sep 22 2014, 4:30 pm

The Chargers lost RB Danny Woodhead early in their Week 3 victory over the Bills and it may be some time before they get him back on the field. San Diego announced that Woodhead, who left the game on crutches, suffered a right ankle injury that caused him to be carted off the field. It looks like it is more than your garden variety ankle injury, however. Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that Woodhead suffered both a severe high ankle sprain and a fractured fibula. He’s expected to have surgery that will bring his season to an end. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken tweeted the news that Woodhead would be lost for the season. It likely locks Donald Brown into a Woodhead-like role when Ryan Mathews returns and probably ensures that Branden Oliver - dubbed "Baby Sproles" by some in the preseason - will see an increase in snaps.
