LaMichael James expected to play Sunday 49ers RB returns from dislocated elbow By: Mike Krueger | Aug 23 2014, 8:00 am
LaMichael James expects to return punts and kickoffs and do whatever else the 49ers might want from him in Sunday's exhibition, four weeks after dislocating his right elbow in practice. James dislocated the same elbow in college at Oregon, and before last month's injury, he was poised to take over as the No. 2 running back after Kendall Hunter's season-ending knee injury. FFToday's Take:Rookie Carlos Hyde has seized the No.2 running back job while James has been on the mend. James will try and work his way back into running back mix and could steal carries from the rookie once the season begins. Hyde is still the second back to own in San Francisco but his upside appeal has been dinged a bit by James' quick return.
