Hyde draws praise for work ethic, smarts
Harbaugh compares rookie to Frank Gore
By: Doug Orth | Jul 31 2014, 5:30 pm

San Francisco HC Jim Harbaugh does not like to make comparisons. He often says someone gets diminished when two players are compared and contrasted. But, in this instance Harbaugh, made an exception. He praised running backs Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde in similar terms. Harbaugh spoke glowingly about Gore’s work ethic and understanding of the game. “Carlos gets football, understands football,” Harbaugh said, citing Roman. “It’s natural for him to understand the game, similar to Frank Gore. And we're seeing those things, and both are very good signs and bode well for us.” (CSN Bay Area)

FFToday's Take: This is a big step up for Hyde, whose work ethic was questioned up until last season at Ohio State. The second-round rookie is the frontrunner to win the backup job with Kendall Hunter out for the season and Marcus Lattimore being treated with kid gloves. Gore has been of an ironman since Harbaugh's arrival, but the 31-year-old showed signs of decline last season, so Hyde has a chance at redraft value this year.
