| Browns hire Pettine to be next HC Replaces Rob Chudzinski By: Doug Orth | Jan 23 2014, 4:30 pm
| The Cleveland Browns on Thursday afternoon reached a deal and named fiery former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine their seventh full-time head coach in the new era. Casting a wide net, the Browns interviewed 10 candidates over the past 25 days. The Browns flew Pettine to Cleveland on Thursday afternoon for a third meeting and finalized the deal shortly thereafter.

FFToday's Take: Pettine replaces Rob Chudzinski, who was fired Dec. 29 after going 4-12 in his inaugural season, causing many Browns to question the team's direction and helping to make a less attractive job for any number of reasons. Regardless of how messy the search was, Cleveland found a quality candidate. Pettine, who runs a 3-4 defense, is a solid defensive mind and will have two first-round picks, plenty of cap space to sign free agents and six Pro Bowlers to work with right away.
