Texans name Keenum starter vs. KC-- Thu Oct 17 3:25 pm --
Moves ahead of Yates in place of injured Schaub
Case Keenum will make his first NFL start at Kansas City after the decision was made to not try to let Matt Schaub play Sunday, coach Gary Kubiak said Thursday. He made the decision to tell the team this morning as the Texans prepare for the 6-0 Chiefs, who have the NFLís best pass rush and have forced the most turnovers.
Keenum spent his rookie season on the Texansí practice squad, but he was impressive during the preseason even though Kubiak wound up naming T.J. Yates to be Schaubís backup. (Houston Chronicle)
FF Today's Take:Kubiak really had no other choice as Yates has done nothing to distinguish himself since winning the franchise's first playoff game in 2011. Given how impressive the Chiefs' defense has been this season, it's a daunting assignment for Keenum. If he is somehow able to thrive, the NCAA's all-time passing leader could potentially make a push for the permanent starting job given Schaub's recent struggles.
