Giants to expand Jacobs' role-- Thu Oct 3 3:05 pm --
Following release of third-down RB Da'Rel Scott
Brandon Jacobs has rushed for just 11 yards on 11 carries since he rejoined the Giants in early September. But the grizzled running back — the lone experienced runner the Giants have left — is going to get plenty of chances over the next few weeks.
The Giants’ decision to release third-down back Da’Rel Scott on Tuesday elevates Jacobs into a familiar role. As recently as 2011, he was the Giants’ power back, working with Ahmad Bradshaw to give them a solid rushing tandem. And now he will play a similar role behind second-year runner David Wilson. FF Today's Take:Jacobs has shown little as a runner, doesn't exactly fit the profile of a third-down back and isn't exactly a threat as a receiver, so any increase in his role is likely to be short-lived. Therefore, either Wilson is going to move into more of a feature-back role or the Giants are paving the way for
rookie Michael Cox to become a more important part of the team until Andre Brown returns.
