|Ryan Lilja signs with Broncos -- Fri Aug 2 11:45 am --|
Reunited with former Colts' teammate Peyton Manning
|"The veteran offensive lineman [Ryan Lilja] traveled to Denver, completed paperwork and physical exam formalities, met (or in one important case, remet) his new teammates, began a crash course in the Broncos' offense, and then participated in the 80-minute evening walkthrough. And yes, he even made some snaps to Peyton Manning during the low-key, low-energy proceedings." Despite previously considering himself to be officially retired, the signing gives Lilja at least one more NFL season. (Denver Post)|
FF Today's Take: The signing certainly helps to bolster the injured Broncos offensive line. Coming out of retirement, Lilja may not be in peak physical condition and he isn't familiar with the Broncos playbook yet, but he's a quality veteran who has worked with Peyton Manning in the past. Whether he sees time at center or at guard, bringing him out of retirement is a great move for the Broncos and should help them in most every offensive category.
