|Cruz, Giants agree to extension -- Mon Jul 8 3:00 pm --|
Reported $15.6 M guaranteed
|Three years ago, Victor Cruz came to training camp as the longest of long shots to make the Giants roster. This year he'll come to camp as the highest-paid receiver they've ever had. The 26-year-old star from nearby Paterson, N.J., guaranteed that status on Monday when he agreed to a blockbuster, five-year, $43 million contract extension, with the Giants, according to several league sources. The deal — which Cruz is expected to officially sign on Tuesday — includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money. (New York Daily News)|
FF Today's Take: While the deal is far below the $11 million average Cruz was believed to be initially seeking last season, he'll average $7.6 million per year and be paid in line with the NFL's top slot receivers. Hakeem Nicks is also seeking an extension, but the Giants have to pleased to remove one possible distraction by striking this deal well in advance of training camp.
