Pats, Brady agree on extension -- Mon Feb 25 6:00 pm --
QB takes hometown discount, signed through 2017 | Tom Brady has agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the Patriots, a deal that will keep him with New England through the 2017 season, a league source confirmed to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: The Patriots gained about $8 million in salary cap space in 2013 on this deal that is well below market value for a top shelf NFL QB. The extra money could help the Patriots not only sign free agents this season (WR Wes Welker, CB Aqib Talib, Danny Woodhead) but allow them roster flexibility in years to come. Brady will turn 40 in 2017.
